 Post subject: skipping on full lock ??

Is it normal for my front wheels to skip on full lock ?its as if its catching or even a ratchting sound as I turn on full lock ??

If you want to understand why look up the terms Anti-Ackerman or Reverse Ackerman. It's the system that ensure the two wheels do not turn symmetrically when cornering, this gives better road holding at speed, Ackerman (which Lotus don't use) gives smooth steering at low speed by turning the inner wheel more than the outer wheel.

It is alarming though isn't it? particularly noticeable when you reverse into a parking space. I imagine the tyre surface getting scrubbed. I wonder how much it contributes to tyre wear?
[please - no smart alecs saying "depends how much you reverse park..." :roll: ]

Well thanks everyone ,thats one less thing to fix then ! The chap I brought it from said "all old lotuses do that" Been new to these cars I thought it was just a bit of speil to sell it :lol:
