Re: Brake pedal adjustment

Just done that myself after having the servo rebuilt. Only done one short drive since but made a big difference. Just be sure that you don't have any preload on the master cylinder when everything is warmed up.

Re: S1 Eclat front spoiler query

Hi Photo's from 1978 built Elite with front under-grill replaced around 4 years ago. I can't vouch for how 'original / factory' all this is but knowing that it was supplied and fitted by Miles Wilkins I would expect it to be. Andy Super helpful, thanks. I was thinking the grille would go flush so y...

Re: S1 Eclat front spoiler query

Am I right in thinking the only way to fit this grille will be with the radiator out, so you have access to the nosecone (for want of a better word) area?

Re: S1 Eclat front spoiler query

Well thanks to this thread I now know there should actually be a grille down there. Looks like this is the one: https://www.sjsportscars.com/parts-and- ... U0546Z.htm

Will get it added to the list of parts needed to bring my car fully back to original!

Re: Anyone tried 14” Yokohama tyres

Rears on mine are 8.5 years old and fronts 7.5 years old. Not many miles on them at all but maybe I could say I need new rears. Maybe... :D

Re: Anyone tried 14” Yokohama tyres

Oooh I didn't know these were back in production. In terms of mileage my tires are nowhere near needing replacing, but they have been on the car a while. Maybe I could justify replacing my Nankang Ditchfinders on the Eclat with these!

Re: LITP 2023

LITP 2023: 30th June - 2nd July. Doesn't say where yet. Pete The smart money says the Peak District. Buh-dym, tish! I went probably 4 years ago now and it was a good event. The classic car run was probably a little too sedate for me but really worth doing. I'll hopefully be there again in 2023 all ...

Re: Driveshaft noise and hub carrier movement on rotation (Eclat)

Looks like mystery may be solved. That clanging coming from the diff area... outer UJ had gone. Three ends looked good, the other had no grease in. Am assuming linked to the bearing failure. Took all circlips off the UJs but ended up just replacing the outer UJ and replacing the clips on the inner o...

Re: Driveshaft noise and hub carrier movement on rotation (Eclat)

Quite possible that a drive shaft yoke has twisted, given spectacular wheel bearing failure (more info on the detail of the failure event might shed more light). The clanging could be induced by the pulling and shortening of the (twisted yoke on the) drive shaft as it's rotated. Possibly, the clang...

Driveshaft noise and hub carrier movement on rotation (Eclat)

Afternoon guys. Hoping you might be able to provide some thoughts on what may be causing this issue I'm having. Context: This is a 1979 Lotus Eclat with inboard drum brakes. A few weeks ago a wheel bearing failed in spectacular fashion, taking out the hub carrier in the process. New hub carrier and ...

Hmmm that could change things then. I need one more person and a large child so I can do the alignment 😂

Re: Duckhams Q20w50

Good to see Duckhams available. More choice for our cars of decent quality oil benefits everyone. I personally use VR1 and that reminds me I have to get another 5 litres ordered.

Re: Rear radius arms and spacers

When it was aligned it would have been sat on the ground but probably without driver in. Do you think that could result in a change in toe and camber to offset what I've been seeing there?

If so this could be a complete waste of a long thread :D

Re: Rear radius arms and spacers

Just used a straightish edge and am as certain as I can be that the alignment on the rears was accurate. But I didn't know the rear camber was adjustable by using a shim on the four driveshaft bolts. Maybe a couple of shims and slightly longer bolts (to get the same engagement) would give me a bit l...

Re: Rear radius arms and spacers

44cm both sides, as best i could measure. Hmmm... something strange going on here.

Not sure if related but I'll add it to the conversation: I have too much negative camber at the rear too. I have -1°39' on the passenger side and -1°50' on the driver's side. Spec should be -30' ±30'.
