Hi Richard, I feel your pain. Easy Outs can be a curse. Even the fluted kind you tap in never work if the broken bolt's diameter is small and well corroded. Hope you're able to chip it away or grind it out as suggested. If you get the block to a machine shop I'm sure they'll be able to sort it quick...

What about when the ring is on the piston, does it sit back fully in it's groove without binding? You do sometimes hear of mismatched ring/piston sets. Things can appear to be quite tight before they've had a chance to bed in properly, but you need to be confident that all the clearances are within ...

I do remember being instructed way back to test the rings in the bores separately, checking the gap is correct for their whole length of travel, using the piston to push them down square.
