Re: Value your Excel if you dare!

Interesting values, probably more than I thought. You are all right to value a bit higher though due to the nature of costly fibreglass repairs. I think I will up my agreed value at next insurance renewal. Mine is an 82 excel vin 1148 which makes it about 4th or 5th one made I think. Bodywork is pre...

Re: Cooling Fan - Help Needed

Hi all I have tried something a friend suggested to me regarding bleeding the coolant system. I have drilled a 4mm hole in the outer ring of the thermostat, bit like you sometimes get with thermostats anyway, usually with a little brass pin that jiggles around in it. Anyway the idea being after you ...

Re: Early servo non return valve wanted

Yeah just like that but I have read it was in gunmetal rather than black, great pictures by the way.

Front bumper colour for early excel

Hello all I need some further advice on my body repairs, thanks to those who replied to my previous post. I am having the front bumper repainted which is currently colour coded. I would now like to paint the bumpers and side skirts in the original gunmetal grey. It is an 1982 excel and it seems that...

Re: Body repairs

Thanks for advice, I am going through the insurance as the cost is too high. I should have said I am in Essex. I have spoken to a premier automotive in Chelmsford who were recommended to me by stocks coachworks. Has anyone heard of them, they seem knowledgeable and they had a lotus in there already....

Body repairs

hello all I wondered if any of you could recommend a good bodyshop, someone hit my car today in a car park, which has torn off the protective rubber strip and done paintwork/fibreglass damage. Not sure if there may now be some underlying damage such as cracks as they managed to push the front end ov...

Re: 1st lotus excel?

Ok I will try to stick a picture on but I have zero patience with computer stuff so this could be many months time. My car is also red and despite a re-spray at some point you can see the old red paint on the parts they didn't reach. Who do I contact at lotus to get my history and is it expensive?

Re: 1st lotus excel?

Cheers for the info I didn't realise that there would be as many as five prototypes, judging by the amount of fibreglass repairs I have had to do I think my one was used for crash testing. I will keep at it though, nearly ready to put the engine back in for the summer after replacing the bearing she...

1st lotus excel?

Hello I have been wondering if my might be the first production excel, it is chassis no. 1148 and there is a reference to this number in the workshop manual, making it seem as if it is the first chassis no. I know there was a prototype excel sold a while ago, which was no.1145. I wondered if anyone ...

Re: engine no. does not match logbook

Ok thanks, maybe I will leave it as it is then. I did wonder if I tried to get it changed it would just be more hassle than it was worth.
Many thanks
