Had mine done by Lotusbits. Full strip and rebuild. Been excellent since and they look like new.

Re: Indicator/Hazard Flasher Unit

Thanks for the replies which were much appreciated. Eventually found the flasher unit. With the under-dash trim panel removed its position alongside the interior lamp delay on top of the pedal box isn't abvious. It can't be seen at all, even when adopting an 'upside-down' position in the footwell an...

Indicator/Hazard Flasher Unit

Set off in Lola yesterday and quickly found that the indicators have stopped working! Trip abandoned and so took the time to check fuses and bulbs and all are fine. Given that the hazard switch is also not working my immediate thoughts are a defective flasher unit. The car is an early '84 excel and ...

Re: How do you buy an Excel?

& another one: 1989, red, £9,000, but it's a non-SE model, which must make it unusual for 1989. I can't imagine many people choosing the slower version once the SE became available. Was there a big price differential when new in 1989? There seems common conception that the non-SE model is somehow d...

Re: Excel Values - Europe

Any car is way cheaper in the UK, for starters being RHD the demand for export will be pretty limited. So if you are prepared to deal with export, tax and registration and can put up with RHD, deals can be had. But post Brexit it hasn't become easier. So the few continental cars will probably fetch...

Excel Values - Europe

From what I can see excels here in the UK continue to be offered at surprisingly low values. Looking at theparking-cars.co.uk website asking prices in nearby Europe generally range £17-25,000 but here on home ground they seem around £5-9,000. Am I missing something? Confused!!

Re: 2nd Drain / breather hose in rear bumper

I am probably wrong but I had always presumed that the second hole was for a second fuel tank breather that was originally intended to be installed during development, like most esprits. Obviously the Excel has two filler caps (one a dummy) and I seem to recall that a similar arrangement existed on ...

Re: owners handbook published 1984

Thank you for having a look. My own knowledge on detailed difference is not anywhere near that of others here but from what I have managed to find the B 089T 0324Z is for the '85 car (wide-body LC). Apparantly the prefix 'A' (ie A 089T 0324Z) is relevant to the '82-'84 narrow body. I suppose the das...

Re: owners handbook published 1984

My car (Lola) is a 1984 Calypso red Excel (Eclat Excel on the V5) so would be happy to make an offer by PM if you can confirm that the handbook relates to a narrowbody?

Re: 83 Excel from from Finland

As part of Lola's pretty comprehensive mechanical overhaul and rebuild by Lotusbits last year Mike supplied and fitted a full set of coilovers and I am very impressed with the result, particularly given that the car is now uprated to 2.5 litres. Steering is sharp and the ride well suppressed and the...

Re: Fuel smell in boot

When I bought my Excel more than 3 years ago there was a smell of petrol in the boot. The previous owner explained that he had replaced the breather hose, which he had and it was routed as it was meant to be with its outlet beneath the bumper. The smell was still there several month later and so I s...

Re: Lotus Eclat 1975 - 2020

Not sure but I don't recall wing or side mirrors being obligatory until 1978. I do though remember drilling the wings of my cars before that date and bolting them on as a worthwile improvement. 'Halfords' bolt on side window frame mirrors were though common for those less willing to molest body pane...

Re: New Lotus Excel owner From Italy

Looks good to me. I too have an '84' car but have never seen the black front bumper inserts in a car of that year. There are real experts on the forum who will respond but might it be from a later car?

Looks like another (or perhaps the same) scammer has a new posting (svneilson). Similar ad's on other classic car ebay postings.
