Re: Dammit. Overheating.
Drove back from Cambridge to Swindon yesterday and hit several traffic queues. The good new is that with one fan running the temperature never rose over 80 deg C. So the cooling system is generally OK except for the fubared electrics.

Re: Dammit. Overheating.
It sounds like the relay is the culprit, but you replaced it with a 5-pin changeover instead of a double pole. Shorting the Otter should make the other fan run if that's the case. Then simply fit the correct relay and all should be fine. :-) Good call. That's a possibility. I didnt check the type :...

And just to add my thanks to Angus for sorting the tireless work on the forum and sorting out the tickets. Sorry you could not make it to a fabulous event.

Re: Dammit. Overheating.
Thanks. Stuart gave me a relay today and I plugged it in. One fan now runs. Problem is it does that without any keys in the ignition. Somebody has really lodged the wiring. So I now need to unplug the relay when parking. Will need to rewire the fans I suspect. Thanks for all the help. I hate to say...

Re: Dammit. Overheating.
One more check before I do this. I is the radiator fan relay. It has 5 pins. J should be the internal fans. It has 4 pins. When I remove J and turn on the ignition I get no dashboard lights. Does that seem correct? No. Removing either of those shouldn't affect the dash lights. The factory fit was a...

Re: Dammit. Overheating.
1st question - you did have the ignition switch on, didn't you? (they don't run when it's off) 2nd question - no fan fail light? Suggestion: try swapping the interior fan and rad fan relays. One more check before I do this. I is the radiator fan relay. It has 5 pins. J should be the internal fans. ...

Re: Dammit. Overheating.
Well. Slot 18 currently has a 15A fuse in it. Not blown.
I couldn't get any 2A fuses. Smallest I have is 3 but even that is better than 15.

Re: Dammit. Overheating.
That's 5 - Radio. 18 - 2A RHS bottom horizontal. 22 - 10A RHS verticle top 23 - 10A RHS verticle midddle 2A is control for the relay via otter sw. Relay supplies each fan by twin lines so yes one duff fuse should mean other fan runs. Common point is the 2A control line ; shared relay and earth. Tha...

It was the left hand side, one up from the bottom. Inserted horizontally.100th_Idiot wrote:There's one 10A fuse looks distinctly dodgy but without a fuse map I don't know if it is 22 or 23.
