Re: Reinforcing fixing points for door cards
Hi Always good to improve fixings etc. while working on an area. Self-tapping screws in the GRP isn’t always great - I’ve found the thin steel originals will rust as well as wear the fixing. I have found using slightly higher gauge & stainless works on the low-stress fixings okay. Not sure thin allo...

Re: Front brake pipes - Access for replacement.
Had the same recently - doing all the pipes under the car, including the one threaded along by the rack - no access to the end or T-piece from underneath or wheel wells. Couldn’t even see it from the engine bay until… Remove the air box entirely and it suddenly becomes doable - if a bit of a stretch...

Re: S J Sportscars Ltd
Really interested to read this - as I also found my “original” front pipe to be longer than the stainless replacement, also buying the complete system didn’t help! (Probably 17 years ago) Reversed centre box and lightly modified the rear for clearance back then. (Convinced that Lotus welded in the f...

Re: Front brake pipes - Access for replacement.
Hi - Thanks for the comment(s)
No problems making / inserting pipes. Getting on the pipe nuts in front "Tee piece" is a head scratch!
(Would insert a photo but is a "feel only" job - as for wielding a brake spanner! )

Front brake pipes - Access for replacement.
As part of the re-commission of the Excel ('90), brakes are being overhauled and all old (quick corrode) steel pipes and hoses replaced until... Looking for any advice on access to T-piece / joint for front brake pipes. It appears to have been placed to make like for like replacement of pipes nearly...

Re: Excel door handles - checking interest
Paid in excess of £60 for a "Repaired" example. Would have paid more for redesigned with no weakness - would happily buy 2 if they are produced. Would imagine a more resilient resin would be available now to remake the original weak part? (If this negates the requirement for Lotus' late model "Pin" ...

Re: SE gear knob
SJ Sportscars list the Leather Knob and correct SE "Shift pattern" badge. Sure Steve would be happy to advise if correct etc. (Not cheap at £55/20 plus the dreaded) Incidentally, I found the leather to stretch & fail on originals - So have liberated a steel bush from the base of an old one, the spli...

Re: Drip
Firstly, great to hear John's windows are sealing!!! :D (Interested to hear how it resolved?) Have to say, wasn't going to replace the door seals but found similar detachment Angus described on examination of the originals. As genuine replacements seemed very reasonable from SJ's (<£50 - plus the dr...

Front seatbelt, lower mounting - long bolt into the sill section... Does it bolt into a captive piece, or access required / un-bolt at your peril?

Re: Window frame fitting. I'm giving up.....
That sounds so frustrating! Sounds like everything suggested has been tried... Thoughts:- 1) Wonder if all adjustment of shell to beam is used at latch end? (Oversize holes / latch relief) As fit was better without the shell. If not, moving the shell as far as possible inboard in relation to the be...

Re: Window frame fitting. I'm giving up.....
As you already had the latch aligned, the beam can’t be far off. Get the hinge bracket shims in place to give a - bottom out / top in twist on the beam. (There is quite a bit of adjustment on the shell to compensate) It won’t be much. I trial fitted the frame with 5 bolts on the bare beam without dr...
