Re: Spotted driving through Scunthorpe?
There are 4 of us just north of the bridge, 2 are red could have been one of those. There is a meet this Saturday (second Saturday of each month) at the Nags head in Routh from 12:00. Not too far for you if you need some pointers.

For those who have no illumination the switches come apart easily, I have soldered these in as replacements

The green colour is just a rubber cap that fits over the lamp and can be removed from the blown one and refitted on these.

Re: excel fuel gauge
I think there are two issues here. Having replaced my gauge with another I have noticed a difference. Issue 1 fuel gauge spikes around (something's not right) Issue 2 fuel gauge drift (normal) With my original gauge the needle would noticeably jump around when cornering, if I shook the car while sta...

Re: Door lights
Yes it does. I removed mine as it was causing a slight current draw leaving the LEDs glowing dimly at all times. Now the lights switch off instantly when the switch is depressed.

Re: Door lights
Remove the delay relay (long yellow one under steering column) then you can tell instantly if what you are doing is working. Without it fitted the lights work in the same way.

Re: Gauge Lighting
Just curious but have you noticed a dull glow from the interior lights when the doors are shut? So dull you can only see when dark.
When I changed mine to LEDs I had this, caused by the time delay relay and wondered if I had a dodgy relay or they all do it.

Re: Heater Matrix
Not had a leaking matrix in the Excel but did have one in a 480 20 odd years ago. You should be able to tell if it is coming from the water jacket as the water will smell sweet as opposed to odourless/stale if it is rain water.

There should be a duct that normally takes air in from in front of the radiator, but has a flap valve (operated by vacuum and controlled by a device that measures the coolant temperature in the intake manifold) that redirects to a hose that sucks air from ...

In lieu of a workshop manual suggest you subscribe to the parts manual on here. Will at least give you an idea about how these go together.
