Re: Lotus Excel leaking sunroof
100 % agree with AndyC. Get a roof panel from Lotusbit's and set it in. Not much of a contour in the roof panel, but enough IMO that it would never look right if you filled in and tried profiling. You'd spend more on filler than you will on a panel from LB. - and all that rubbing down.... Urgh. Tony

Re: Hampshire meet up April?
Success. I can finally see them on my tablet.
Great gathering. Roll on Castle Coombe.,

Similar to previously commented, on my PC I need to use Chrome to access the forum. Using explorer just bombs and has done since the site upgrades mid last year.

Re: ExteriorDoor lock has fallen out
I had exactly this problem when I bought my car last June. It was the first job fixed and I was lucky the lock barrel was falling out simply because the single M6 screw that secures it had worked out. In this position, the insert was still good. Someone had used a wrong locking washer. Not so lucky ...

Re: 1988 Excel SE. Brief Update
I have a new screen for the Elite and was thinking of a DIY fit. I'd be up for a bit of joint learning. The race is on for the first to be ready.. I might commandeer some assistance and have a go myself![]()

Looks like it is on the continent.
Prices abroad always appear higher than UK, but £38k is really pushing it.

Re: Donington Historic Festival 1-2 May - CANCELLED
Shame. Was looking forwards to that.
Does give me a bit longer to rebuild the car interior before Castle Coombe though. 1st May was arriving very fast and only one seat in the car currently.

Re: Window sponge ?
I'll be the 3rd to say I don't know of foam bonded to the glass. My Elite had a 50mm square foam section packed around the door beam to 'seal' to the door shell fibre glass near the hinge end. Did a wonderful job of aiding door beam corrosion. I have a plastic sheet bonded to the outside of the glas...

Re: Roof aerial M4 screw
Sorted without resorting to the drill. After sleeping on it, I concluded the screw was more likely to be tight in the aerial casting than the M4 thread. Sure enough, found by holding the fitting inside the car, I could wind the aerial around outside the car and remove the aerial, complete with screw...

Roof aerial M4 screw
I'd like to remove the aerial, so I can get a good ground connection to new roof foil. But M4 screw from top securing the aerial is a slot head, very rusty and just ain't coming out. If I drill the head off from outside, am I likely to regret it? I'm sure once the aerial cable block with the M4 tapp...

---TOOLS, MATERIALS and things I’d do differently --- A staple gun and Contact adhesive will be needed for re-fixing the leather on the frame once the repair is done. Beyond that the only other leather working materials all came off Fleabay, costing the grand total of £33.02, including £9.75 for the...

Re: Leather Rear Seat Repair
---THE BIG STITCH UP--- There were 2 major areas of concern in my mind all along. 1 / How tidy can I get the “pointy bit” where the two old pieces of leather and the new piece come together? 2/ Trying to maintain some tension in the leather across the back, so it looked tight, but not so tight the n...

---CHANGING PLANS--- It was about this time that I was making good progress on some of the black highlights around the car, (all of which were reversible) but I began to question whether black flashes in the back seat (that would not be reversible) was the best end game. – Onto plan C, back to Fleab...
