Re: Excel Mk2...

I got inspired to make a sketch of my ideas for a new Elite/Eclat/Excel design.

The rear is transparrent like the Elite with rear lights behind rear glass as well.
It has a retractable sun roof, which slides backwards like 911 Targa.

Re: Excel Mk2...

I love the new Opel GTE showcar presented last week. With some small modifications to the rear it could be e real nice Elite/Eclat/Carlton for the future. The powerplant should be Lotus' new Hybrid. A cheaper version could be a Toyota "Celica" - also presented recently - based coupe with upgraded po...

Re: Alternator replacement

Get it renovated at a specialist with new bearings and carbon contacts - and maybe a new relay.

Cost estimate is 150 £

Re: New wheels and spacer

Would it be possible to drill a new pattern on the wheel hub eg. 4 x 100 mm "in situ"? I would make a drill plate/master with existing 4 x DC114,3 for fixing and 4 x DC100 mm 8,2 mm holes for pre-drilling. 1 step: 8 mm pre drilling 2 step: 10,8 mm drilling 3 step M12 x 1,5 mm How do I avoid metal gr...

Re: Starter Motor For Excel SA

Are you sure the problem is caused by the starter motor? The battery and the starter/generator are seperated by app. 3 m of cable and at least 4 connections. A weak connection from the battery to the starter can cause the starter motor just to activate and not turn the engine over. The problem goes ...

Re: clearglass headlights

I made the conversion in august when changing to continent drive side.

I have an Autocad drawind, which I printed out and stick-glued to the pod - and then cutted to fit the Golf I-headlights. I can post an pdf-file, if you mail me: smedien"remove"@os.dk.

Re: water leak is still there

A small trick to eliminate possible leak sources. Make an 20% alcohol mixture and "spill" this on strategic places from outside. The moment you can smell it inside - you have the leak. Do allow sufficient time between each "spill" to avoid mixing up leak sources. Redwoods in US are capable of suckin...

New rims in 15x7 4x114 ET15 mm for Eclat-Excel 83 - 84

I found this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lotus-Eclat-MG-RV8-Celica-Supra-15x7-Wheels_W0QQitemZ390109096515QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET?hash=item5ad4506a43 I belive you would need 4 mm spacers to copy the original 19 mm offset. This however does not solve the t...

Re: Air intake pipe

These pipes are used many places and come in many diameters. I replaced mine with a left over from my boat heating project. Try to contact a company, that install Eberspacher or Webasto units. You can bring along the inlet tube for perfect fitting - and a sixpack as payment. I would recommend to pla...

Re: Access to horns

My 10 yr daugther helped me. But I still needed to cut out 10 x 2 cm of glass fibre above the radiator - not visible with closed bonnet. It now serves the purpose of weight saving.

Today we are both suffering from "glass fibre itching" on the left arm.

Danish tax on an '83 Eclat/Excel

Consider yourself lucky. Today I finally got the reply from danish tax goverment. To get danish licence plates on my previously UK registered 1983 Lotus Eclat/Excel i must pay GBP 5.680. This was quite a struggle, as some enthusiasts have tried this before, with estimates going to twice of this amou...

Access to horns

The tubes came off my compressor horns during inspection of a fault. As I am not a gynaecologist - or know any - I need to get better access to the "compartment" btw. the head lights above the radiator. I can barly get my fingers in (hence the gynaecologist reference) with open bonnet. Do I need to ...

New owner - new challenges. Speedo cable, dashboard light

I just bought a '83 Eclat/Excel and drove it 370 enjoyable mls to my home in Denmark. My Smith speedo is not working. I would expect this to be caused by a broken cable. Behind the dash I can feel the cable connected to the rear of the instrument. How do I disconnect the cable? I am a little afraid ...
