Re: For sale project Calypso Red Lotus Excel SE 1989
Hi Richard That’s a shame I missed the deadline. Your forum notification email went into my junk mail so I wasn’t aware until yesterday. I am 50/50 about selling the car, but in reality it’s probably better going to someone with the enthusiasm to finish it. I only advertised it on this site, I reall...

Hi
Yes it’s still for sale. I can share a photo before it was stripped I suppose. How can I get a photo to you?
Cheers
Keith

Excel 1989 roof rail, capping rail removal
With a pending respray on the table I was faced with trying to remove the capping rail. (Roof rail to C post) Why the hell Lotus fixed it with self tapping screws behind the rear quarter light we will never know. Anyway, after searching many posts it seemed like the only way to gain access to those ...

I would be interested in a pair, depending on final price at around the £200 mark.

Re: Window frame repair
Many thanks for the advice and pointing to the technical article. Quite a fiddly job but worth having a go I believe.
Mr HC180, I would be very interested in the frames. Where are you located?
Thanks

Re: Window frame repair
Thanks for the reply.
I suppose I've got nothing to lose having a crack at welding, not to say that I am an expert welder by a long way. I might have to enlist someone with better eyesight and skill than myself.
Cheers

Window frame repair
My 1989 Excel window frames are corroded, but I believe I might be able to save them. a) Does anyone have an old window frame that they could let me have/sell me to use for repair sections b) Is there anyone who has made a welded repair, if so how did it go. I see in the forum that new made frames a...

Re: First time Lotus owner and New member - Located in York
The wooden panels in the dash can warp with the damp, if the walnut is still in place they can be repaired. Get a domestic steam cleaner, the hand held units are quite cheap now, put the panel in a vented tin and pump steam through it for about an hour. You need a few sheets of absorbant paper ( I ...

Re: First time Lotus owner and New member - Located in York
I hope it is not the windscreen leaking but looking at the badly damaged internal trim on the drivers side A post I suspect it might be, we'll see. If the exterior A pillar trim hasn't been sealed to the screen properly, or the sealant has failed, water will creep round under it and into the cabin....

Yes, it is that one. I also live in Huntington so had seen it many times. With a bit of good fortune it became available to me.Harro wrote:Would this be the car I've seen parked in a front garden in Huntington?

First time Lotus owner and New member - Located in York
Hello all A few days ago I was very fortunate to acquire a 1989 Calypso Red Excel SE, full leather and a/c. It has not been on the road for 10 years but is complete (steering rack not fitted) and in reasonable condition considering. Paint is very faded, engine is OK, footwells full of water but majo...
