Re: LEAKS - Explain this if you can!!!!

That's exactly how the water was getting into my Excel - re-bedded the door seal and it was cured.

Hi Jim - some photos: As you can see there are some scratches on the upper surface. https://db3pap004files.storage.live.com/y4mqI0eP8YO2n3N6nGUXlvI148m_qufhth8NOUe_6r9rP7QGdYyZUZEu82l0wLaDTG15-DXZVkAvMrq0-20oSMINYjUF-O8KQN_nO7awEOd2bdwYbTK0XpTqACOrLEKIPVOlM7IhjDFx-g97jDX4LFTtvDGvYGwHqnKBEb04FP8xfd4p...

Re: CD player

Martin - the Alpine unit is a XQE 100430 from a Rover 75. The tray (although it won't eject without power) is black plastic - it doesn't have separate inserts.

Re: CD player

I'll have a look Martin. What I meant by magazine is the whole CD changer/transport, not just the CD "tray". Sorry for the confusion

CD player

Does anyone have a use for a CD multi-disc "magazine"? FOC + postage. I've got two that have been in the loft for years! One is a Sony 10-disc and the other an Alpine 6-disc. I'll never use them again - all my CD's are now ripped to a NAS and in the loft!

Make sure you use an electronic "otter switch" - the mechanical ones are a bit flakey - 60 year old tech.

Re: New member - Excel SA

From that diagram it looks like the original radiator isn't a cross-flow design (unless it's "artistic license" at play). The Lotus rad is a cross-flow design so the water flows across the width of the rad, not from top to bottom. Maybe that will make it easier to pump "against" the flow? The cooles...

Re: New member - Excel SA

From my own experience with electric coolant pumps on my V8 I'd stick with the standard set-up! I wouldn't want to pump downhill - against the natural convection. Anyway there is no need - just run an aluminium pipe of suitable diameter from the bottom rad outlet to the opposite side of the rad and ...

Re: Cam Carrier leak.

On Lotusbits CNC'd heads all those stud holes are helicoiled. Maybe they get damaged because the cam carriers are on and off so much when sorting the shims? Also on the later engines with bolts instead of studs the bolts are used to tighten against the pressure of the valve springs when only partly ...

Re: New Member

Just out of interest is the exhaust an engine in or out scenario? The whole exhaust except the manifold can be removed with the engine in situ - the manifold is another matter. It is significantly easier with the engine out. Rarely do all the nuts come off without bringing the studs with them or sh...
