Re: Low coolant level and fan fail
Although I sold the Excel a while ago (still lurking on the forum), from what I remember, there is a low coolant module which sits under the dash to the left of the steering column. When that failed, I no longer got a low coolant light when it was low. It is the same as on the Rover SD1 http://www.r...

Re: Steering rack gaiter
Thanks. The universal one definitely didn't fit very well.

Steering rack gaiter
She just failed the MOT due to a split rack fairer. Got a universal one fitted to pass but it isn't really long enough. Can anyone confirm that it is a standard Sierra rack gaiter and not a different one due to the different track rods?
Thanks

Re: Excel SE radiator
I don't think there would be enough room for the extra width required. It isn't actually too hard to get at so a flat / square / blind nut should be fine. Will see what I can find in Halfords tonight.

Re: Excel SE radiator
Thanks.
It can't have been rivets as I would remember the pain of drilling them out. I will get some blind/flat nuts and screw back in.

Re: Replacing the lower steering column - advice?
When I did it, I prised open the clamp a little on the UJ with a pry bar and then removed the 2 upper column bolts from under the dash and then gave it a tug. From memory there are 2 big square nuts, one of which can definitely fall down.

Re: Excel SE radiator
Recon radiator back in but I cannot remember what held the fan shroud to to the radiator - and whatever it was I have misplaced them. Any help appreciated so I can get the right bits or it will be stainless bolts.
Thanks

Re: Excel SE radiator
I finally got around to taking the radiator out. Easier than expected. Popped into Boston to drop it off as it is close to work and it seems Boston Radiators is now a gym.... It seems that there is now a Lincoln Radiators opened so I will drop it off there this weekend and see how good their service...

Re: Blog about restoration of a "hedge fund" '86 Excel
When I changed the clutch master cyclinder for a new one, I also noticed that the clevis / arm wasn't as long as the original version. It still functions fine though but the pedal is closer to the floor and will go all the way to the floor when pressed. The clutch "helper" spring is just to ensure t...

Re: Clutch woes
Doesn't the spring keep the release bearing in contact with the clutch cover fingers all the time, or have I got it the wrong way round in my head (easy these days!)? Pete It does. Caused major pain when I changed the release bearing and started squealing. Bearing was stiff and wasn't turning freel...

Re: Spring from clutch fork to chassis
I replaced mine and it is the same part number as the throttle return spring on the carbs if I remember correctly (got it from SJ sportscars). Doesn't actually help a lot, just holds the release bearing against the clutch. I replaced it to stop a squeal as there wasn't enough force to make the relea...

Boston Radiators in your area recored my 3 core rad a couple of years back: http://www.ilincolnshire.co.uk/profile/ ... vices-Ltd/ To start with, I had an exchange one from them, but it was a triple core in a double frame, which didn't fit very well. In fairness the guy hadn't seen how it fitted in...

Re: Dreaded Roof Lining
Been stupidly busy with work so I haven't been on the forum since I posted about correx a while ago. Will be very interested to see how it goes. I also have left over roof lining from the last time! Unfortunately whilst prepping the EXCEL for MOT I noticed a lot of steam rising from under the nose. ...
