Not sure if you have my '83 Excel on the list?
I'll pm you the details.
It's Monaco white with red 1/2 leather.
I've owned it since 1989.
SORN since 2007, but nothing wrong with it.
Mike.

Re: Door Tweeter Prototypes
I keep everything!
All the broken bits that have been replaced over the years are still in my shed!
Except the original exhaust, I just swept that up

Re: Door Tweeter Prototypes
you need to upgrade to a Motorola 4500x  I was thinking of upgrading the head unit to something more modern, but decided to stick with ne nice old 'period' Pioneer KE-4300 it came with: http://antique-autoradio-madness.org/Pioneer/Pioneer-1982/Pio-82-Pub/Pio_cata82_23AAM.jpg A discrete amp...

Re: Door Tweeter Prototypes
It's quite a big hole ( ) and space!
Open to practical ideas of what it can be used for.
An integrated LED for 'mood lighting' is a possibility.

Door Tweeter Prototypes
First 3D printed prototypes to replace the redundant door ashtrays. https://images2.imgbox.com/32/00/AdzL9zNb_o.jpg https://images2.imgbox.com/da/24/7oQVgJTM_o.jpg https://images2.imgbox.com/03/9a/sTnOlYmc_o.jpg 3 pieces, so the 'grille' bit can be easily customised, and the internal part can be mod...

Re: Door Check Strap - early Excel
Not that it matters, but I think that top, front hinge bolt is in the wrong way around and the head should be on the outside and the nut on the inside. Then you should be able to get a ring spanner on it and a socket on the nut (with a struggle). That's the way it came from the factory as far as I ...

Re: Door Check Strap - early Excel
Well, for the first time in 30 years, the Excel has a working drivers door strap, first time I've ever experienced the door staying open by itself! New 'T' piece turned from a grade 10.9 wheel bolt, welded into the arm: https://images2.imgbox.com/10/f5/3lc4lvmq_o.jpg Cut back and sandblasted: https:...

Re: Remove rear lights? And renew silvering?
Tinfoil is not a good solution. Tried this years ago no another car, looks good for a while then just oxidises and falls apart. I would also expect metallic paints to oxidise or go dull, unless they are laquered. I tried a very 'chrome' paint on the silvering of my Merc C220 headlights and it didn't...

Re: Door Check Strap - early Excel
The 'T' shape piece which fits in the slot, it's now an 'L' shape! You can just see it in the pic in the first post. I'm machining a new one from a 10.9 grade bolt, then just weld it back in place. The broken bit came out nice and cleanly. Also the door pivot hole is worn, so I've drilled it out and...

Re: Door Check Strap - early Excel
Same.
Lotus sourced them from the P6, but used their own design 'cranked' arm to suit the Eclat/Elite/early Excel. Also used on the Elan +2 apparently.
I'm working on a repair to my broken cranked arm now.
More to follow . . . . .

Re: Door Check Strap - early Excel
The locking part (Which is what I think you need) looks incredibly similar to those fitted to the Rover P6 2000, 2200, 3500. http://shop.roverp6cars.com/DOOR-CHECK-STRAP-SLIDE-ARM-COMPLETE-LH/PASSENGER-SIDE That's interesting, I guessed it wouldn't be a Lotus part. Both bits of mine are broke, the ...
