Thanks Pete - will have a look at that video!
I'm too scared to get painting before I've got most things fitting in place - I can see major paint damage otherwise.

Re: Electric window
If I remember correctly, you need to take the bracket that the motor is attached to off the door beam to get to the bolts of the motor itself. It's been some time since I removed mine though.

Re: Remove rear lights? And renew silvering?
I think there will be a significant different in brightness between your two light clusters with one done and the other left alone. I did this to my lights a very long time ago and seem to recall there was a noticeable improvement in light output by re-painting the reflectors and cleaning the inside...

Crikey Pete - you're going to a lot of effort to ensure your chassis doesn't get covered in oil like Stu's - you do know that your chassis will now rust and all bolts will seize in place?

Re: New member - Excel SA
Thanks Pete - I'll look at your way too - I've borrowed an electric riv-nut setter before, it makes it really easy to fit them, so if I can get hold of it again, I'll probably go that route. The latest project was the high-level/3rd brake light. Best Tony looks away now - I did have to cut into the ...

Thanks Peter K! I've had a lot of practice with the fiberglass by now - I also went through all the threads on TLF by a chap who goes by "Changes" - he has done some major work on Esprits, and he describes all his processes in great detail - including fiberglassing, painting and final sanding and po...

Re: New member - Excel SA
I've had a number of cuts, scraps and bashes over the years, and splinters I could easily pull out, but this one was harder to fix than the others! Hi Peter K, I don't think I've added much weight at all with the repairs I've done, and certainly removed a lot of excess fiberglass and filler from pre...

Re: New member - Excel SA
Thanks Pete! Following a bit of a break over Xmas, am back on to fiberglassing. I had previously done the repairs to the passenger side of the engine bay, but the driver's side also needed some work - a fair amount of cracking - which had popped up in a few odd places - as well as some visible damag...

After the glum news from a few months ago - some much better news! My daughter just got her final exam results and is now a doctor :D . She has completed 6 years at university - the first two years are all lectures, the middle two mostly lectures but some practical stuff in hospitals, and the last t...

Re: New member - Excel SA
I will definitely be looking at some heat shielding in that area to protect the fiberglass - good to know that something as simple as heat tape is effective. The bottom pic is a fiberglass mirror cover. Mine are torn - not badly, but certainly an eye sore, and i can't see any repairs holding up. I m...

Back to a bit of car work - some bits and pieces have been done - not all of it news or photo worthy! Back to some fiberglassing (as requested by Andrew...) The Lexus engine is a tight squeeze into the engine bay, to give a bit more clearance for the exhaust manifolds I needed to trim the joint in t...

Re: Seat refurbishment
It's not necessary to take the leather off to see the rubber base and foam - that you can see quite easily from underneath - as Bash says, it's almost certainly the rubber diaphragm that's torn and the seat has no support anymore.
