Re: Engine bay wiring loom location
You are right with it going to the gearbox, it would make sense to have a separate cable going to that. I've fitted the main wiring loom back inside the car and paired up all the connector plugs, there is one left, a 4 pin flat connector, 2 of the wire colours are Green and Green/brown. Looking at t...

Re: Engine bay wiring loom location
That's great, thank you very much. I can now make up a cable with a couple of spade connectors on and feed that through to the interior. I'll worry about the connector plug when I fit the main wiring loom back in and can see after everything is connected which connector plug has nothing connected to...

Engine bay wiring loom location
Hi Chaps, I'm really stuck at the moment and need a bit of help. I'm restoring my Excel and in the process of putting everything back into the bodyshell. There are 4 cables that run from the engine bay into the interior, they go through the fibreglass via rubber grommets, the cables are, 1, Red posi...

Re: Shock Absorber dust cover
Thanks Chaps for your replies, I agree covers would be better, so I contacted GAZ wondering if they had somehow forgot to fit them to the shocks I bought, this was their reply, "The rears on this car are a coilover & don’t need a dust cover. The seal you see in the top nut is a scraper & keeps any d...

Shock Absorber dust cover
Hi Chaps,
Just wondering if there has ever been a dust cover fitted to the rear shock absorbers?
Every car I have ever had seems to have them and as I'm replacing my shocks with lovely new ones, it seems a negative thing to fit them without this sort of protection against road dirt etc
Dave

Looks like there's a bit of profiteering going on!
I saw a Lotus Excel pop up for sale on Ebay, it looked complete and would only need a bit of work to get it road worthy and for £1750, I thought that was a good price. It sold very quickly. Then the next day the person who had bought the car, started listing parts for sale from it. I have seen this ...

Re: New member
Hi Marten, I wanted to do just that, remove the body to make getting the engine and gearbox out easier. I'm going to do a post on the start of my restoration very soon. I'm at the stage of body removed, chassis in my garage and now have just removed the engine and gearbox. I just put a winch cable a...

Re: 1987 Lotus Excel project :D
Hi, I'm not familiar with Lotus's yet, just moving over from Triumphs. But the way a brake light switch normally operates is, the contacts make to bring the handbrake light on. So a check would be similar to what you did, but take the connectors off the switch, don't connect them, just leave them. I...

Re: New Excel owner with a couple of questions
Thanks Neil. And Alan for your OneDrive guide, I need to sort more pictures for future posts. Spot on Richard with regards to the TR7, it doesn't look too bad from that shot, but it is pretty bad, not sure if it's totally saveable! That's a big plus point of the Excel bodyshell, no rust!! Tony, it w...

This is just a photo test (via OneDrive) if it works I can start posting with pictures, which is always better. https://db3pap003files.storage.live.com/y4m49mRSCQACXV0Ckch7uNaCixFoJ6cXc1L6-8tj6h0mQRmOg3CIhvX9vACXp3sMgMBB0sco8km5rOCcF7afd-oigs1rjPTDF9WDSSFKe5iN9TNa6OvV8aw_fU4WfJaSIO8iwHmSinqgqLpDFm9Q...

Re: Door stuck shut
Thanks Chaps for your help. Both handles were pulling the release part of the door latch, but to make sure I made the suggested hooked piece of wire and after quite a while (I do like a challenge) hooked the door latch, so I was able to give it an extra pull, along with pushing the door in against t...

Door stuck shut
Hi Chaps, I'm at the very start of my Lotus project, so will be working on different areas to start with. The first sticking point is the passenger door, it refuses to open. I sprayed WD40 into the latch and pulled the handle from inside while pushing on the door, nothing, Then there was a snapping ...

Re: New Excel owner with a couple of questions
Thank you for more welcomes, I think car Forums are a great way of spreading knowledge, getting help and finding like minded people. Thank you Richard for your pictures and details, it's all much clearer now, I can see the differences in cars and interiors. Dave, yes likewise, you can never have too...

Re: New Excel owner with a couple of questions
Hello Chaps and thank you for your welcome. Very reassuring to hear about fitting the SE interior, I just had in my head, things on cars like these need to be kept original, but it will make the restoration "easier" because things like the steering column, switches, vents/ducts, even the wiring and ...
