Re: Unobtainium
The website for CTL seems pretty awful in terms of finding parts. Did they mention whether they have any plans to update that or is it really a case of calling them about parts? I've heard the name CTL, but until they started take an interest in PML they were not really on my radar in terms of the E...

Re: F Pipes splitting within a year?
Hi all, The image below is of a pair of F pipes that were purchased from a UK supplier as new, not used. They have been on the car about 9 months tops, but are showing signs of splitting already. Given they were about £40 each, it seems really poor quality, and they have not been moved since they w...

Re: F Pipes splitting within a year?
My guess Is these F pipes, although 'new' were manufactured MANY years ago and have been on a shelf. Material has started to degrade, hence not really fit for purpose any more. I have the same set up as Bryan, which cost pennies and lasts for ever. Bit of a dilemma though if your seeking total orig...

Re: F Pipes splitting within a year?
Unfortunately, I had the same thing happen. The ones on the car when I bought it were split, and the genuine replacements I bought later on split within a year or two as well. So I came up with this, using small (I believe it was 4mm) inside diameter silicon hose, and those little T-piece type conn...

Carb float max drop?
Hi all, I am trying to find out what the specification is for the DHLA float dropped measurement. I know for a Spec 10 carb the shut off height is 14.5-15.00mm, but nothing is given for the drop and I think mine are getting stuck when the car is not used and the fuel has evaporated. The floats are c...

Re: Alternator type and service
Interesting development when with the car yesterday. Now it is running again, the alternator seems to have woken up and is putting out around 13.1 at idle. I think I will still change the regulator as I have bought it now but interestingly the markings on the Alternator say 70amp, yet the car handbo...

Re: Alternator type and service
Thanks for the input folks - I knew someone here would have some insights on this one! Will measure voltage at the terminal to be sure but I think a regulator and brushes might be in order.

Alternator type and service
Hi, Trying to identify the alternator shown below from my 1989 2.2 SE. I believe it is original as there is no reference in the documents I have to it being changed, but I can't find any readable markings on it, and the parts list is not specific about the make. I know it is a 90amp unit, possibly V...

Re: Instalation of High Torque Starter Motor
The problem I found with my high torque starter, which I think was from there too, was the need for different bolts. Would have been nice if they were included, but not the end of the world. I also needed to make up a new alternator lead as the old one could not quite reach the positive post.

Re: Initial mechanical timing question
I know a very late reply. Are the camshafts in alignment. Remember 2x crank rotation for 1x cam rotation. You may not be at 10deg on compression on no.1 cylinder which would make you exactly 180deg out. Thanks. As of last weekend, the belt is on and the timing reset, including repositioning the aux...

Re: Excel Radiator Options?
Why not get your original re-cored? Had mine done when it sprung a leak. Cost the same as an a Chinese alloy one and don't have to worry about size or fatigue plus supported a local business. I recently did a recore with Lotusbits. It was very prompt and well packaged. Arrived with a couple very li...

Re: Distributor air gap
Anything around a 1mm will be fine - that is what I did for mine when I replaced the pick-up as no specific measurement is given in the service notes. Main thing is making sure that on a full rotation no contact is made!

Well my G-reg SE is in that group of expired MOT/SORN notifications. But slowly working its way up the spreadsheet to the 'Roadworthy' column. I WILL get there
