Re: Can I remove the inlet manifold complete with carbs?
Hello! Lotus Excel- need to change head gasket. Is it possible to remove the whole inlet installation without removing the carbs? I bothering about the cooling hose connection between inlet manifold and waterpump. It is very tight. I looks like I cannot push the tube left or right. cheers! Maikel I...

Re: F Pipes splitting within a year?
Hi all, The image below is of a pair of F pipes that were purchased from a UK supplier as new, not used. They have been on the car about 9 months tops, but are showing signs of splitting already. Given they were about £40 each, it seems really poor quality, and they have not been moved since they w...

Re: Steering Rack - Why rigid mounted not isolation bush
For reasons I'll go into elsewhere, I've had my rack rebuilt, but the main casing was beyond help, so it was rebuilt with a different second hand casing the company had kicking around. On collection I note it has isolation bushes pressed into the mounting points. For some reason, Lotus used two top...

Re: Changing Clutch - the most awkward way?
The only other Way that came to my mind was the classical Method of getting the whole Drivetrain out through the Engine-Bay - but that definitely is a lot more Work. Once you've done it a few times (because Lotus ;)) pulling the engine/transmission is probably a lot more comfortable. Provided you h...

Don't, it will go wobbly pretty quick, it just isn't dimensionally stable if not perfectly dry.Dwaynem884 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2023 16:20I'm going with 6mm MDF, may be slight overkill, but the original masonite clearly wasn't up to the job

Re: Excels and Air-conditioning
See my v8 link from page 15 onwards. https://www.lotusexcel.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8397&start=210 Also andy did it to a standard excel. https://www.lotusexcel.net/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=12499 To be honest a combination of the two methods means you could do it without all of the kit from another car....
Re: Emeya
I hope those bonnet vents serve some actual practical purpose and are not just there for styling. My pet hate (well, the top out of many...) in current car design is fake features - chromed rings at the lower rear that don't actually have exhaust coming through them, Aston Martin style front wing v...

Re: Weight of Excel bare shell
Would anyone know the weight of a completely bare Excel bodyshell? Stripped of all glass, interior, doors, bumpers, boot and bonnet. I need to move it from chassis to a dolly for painting. Wondering if 4 blokes can lift it - I think so but just wanted to check! Many thanks... Should work. Look up t...

Re: New member - new owner
Andrew - thanks for this advice. It looks like the entire week (for me, near Tenby, Pembrokeshire), is looking much much warmer so was going to leave it to the end of the week (shed does get hot) so any moisture has come out (for the most part). No one is going to see it (especially after I've rapt...

Re: Elite roof
If you really want to research this thoroughly, I keep seeing the same book being recommended: How to restore fibreglass bodywork, by Miles Wilkins. The book has a picture of an Elite on the front cover. It's available second hand on ebay, but it's very pricey (which makes me think it must be good)...

Re: Door window seals, and door drainage
Today I have been investigating why my drivers side footwell filled with water in heavy rain when the car was outside last year. After spending some time in the lotus position in the drivers foot well while my partner sprayed the car with the hose pipe I found no leaks from the windscreen, wiper me...
