Coolant flow on single cap header tank
Hello all, my Early Excel has the single cap coolant header tank. When running and up to temperature should there be coolant flowing from the small diameter pipe that comes from the top of the rad into the header tank? Mine doesn’t and I’m wondering if the water pump is not working as well as it sho...

Re: Iron cross wheels
I’m trying to get speedline badges made to match the original on the right- the printing seems to be faded gold, in thinking it used to be black, can anyone confirm? The background colour… was it brushed silver or did it have a tinted lacquer to make it gold’ish? Hard to tell from my knackered origi...

Re: Gear Lever Gaiter
Resurrecting this thread, and I thought I saw this on here somewhere- I just fitted this gaiter from eBay on my 84 Excel, some trimming and it works better than the original, with more clearance under the leather gaiter. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324603986311?hash=item4b93e7c187:g:W1gAAOSwsdtdsYm5

Re: ‘84 Excel
Thank you all for the warm welcome! Hi Chris, the reg of yours is very close isn’t it! I’d love to see yours, is it a similar spec? I saw this one on the car and classic site, was fairly close for me to have a look. Externally my car is identical, the interior is red what colour is yours? I live in...

Re: Iron cross wheels
Thanks for the replies everyone. I’m keen to got the wheels looking as originally produced, it’s a shame I can’t see clearly on the pic of the unrestored car whether the outer edge is machined/lacquered or paint.

Re: Iron cross wheels
Hi Richard, Thank you for that. The wheels have been redone in the past and the outer lip looks machined, but not lacquered strangely- was hard to tell as the shine is long gone! Yours are Speedline wheels - the style was originally designed by Oliver Winterbottom for the Esprit, then used on some S...

Iron cross wheels
I’m looking at getting my wheels refurbed, but I can’t find online what the iron cross wheels were like originally… it looks like the outer lip on mine were machined finish, would it have included the next internal diameter too as on my crude image? Thanks in advance for any help, Keith https://i.po...

Re: ‘84 Excel
Hi Peter, The Elise I had was a ‘98 S1, the steering feel was fantastic, and the feeling of grip was amazing- I think that they are criticised for being snappy once the rear grip is overcome, but on the road that limit is high! For a 4 seater “older” car the Excel is very nice indeed to drive, with ...
