Re: vacuum advance capsule

Thanks for the advice. My main concern is that Lucas has a plethora of variations in their Vac units and one would assume these were all for a reason. Spoke with Powerspark and they just have the one type for a 45D except for the mini specific one. The distributor on the Excel is a 45DM4. But if som...

vacuum advance capsule

It's no totally gone, but it is on it's way out and whilst we're in at the carbs, I may as replace it. Lucas part no. 5440528 Has anyone sourced a good replacement? SJ's have them available but for kicking the back door of £50 all said and done, it makes me think again. A quick look on eBay shows th...

Re: Carb fuel line removal

Thanks Alan, Hoping to avoid a full refurb simply due to cost, just simply a check over of everything whilst they're removed to replace the botched anti-vibration mounts.

Carb fuel line removal

Needing to remove the carbs off the car in order to check them over, set up etc. but when attempting to remove the fuel line, the union is murder tight! Scared to give it brute force in case half the carb comes with it! Am I missing some secret way of removing them or has a previous owner just tight...

Re: Heater Controls

Sorry my nomenclature is off a tad. :?

It's the pivot that I need. It comes in two parts that press fit into each other hence me calling it a clip.

It's the same as what's on the other levers, highlighted in the ...

Re: SE Gear knob

Question How far does the steel insert/boss sit out from the base of the knob? My knob had been rehashed that badly I believe the boss was too far in, so couldn't trust it for a correct measurement. The tear down has begun https://onedrive.live.com/embed?resid=1268678C60B75C0E%214416&authkey=%21AAD...

Re: New Excel model coming soon

Yep : Funny business at play. I didn't pre order, but prompted by the thread I decided to invest in a red one. Turned up today and very pleased with it, but it is 1 of 120 !!!! The detail even extends to a "flat" on the tyres so it would look like it's standing with some weight on it. Intentional o...

Re: Fuel Pump failure

I have an AZX 1308 EN that gave up the ghost recently. Unsure as to when it was last replaced. It was poorly mounted by a p.o. . Took it apart and everything seemed to look ok mechanically, but with power to it, all it would do it make the circuit but not break it, therefore the diaphragm would not ...

Late Excel Exterior Door Handle Flap

After repairing the handle... it has broke, but not in the usual place. The lug of the handle/flap has broken off. Has anyone had this part break before & repaired successfully? Or has anybody an old unit that the part could be salvaged from? Photos to follow if what I'm saying isn't clear. D...

Re: 1992 Excel SE - How far is too far?

The threaded rod sits vertical, with the clamp angle at the top edge of the battery. It should not be sitting across the middle of the battery as in the above photo. Easy to just bend the foot of the rod slightly. On my car, the battery cover just has a hole in it. I bought a threaded knurled knob ...

Re: 1992 Excel SE - How far is too far?

Your battery cover is a strange one and every day is a school day. The cover looks like my MY87 version with a twist lock. That should fit into a female part on the mounting bracket. However, your bar looks like what i see in the manual which apparently the cover drops on to the threaded portion an...

Re: 1992 Excel SE - How far is too far?

Into the darker evenings, work on the car has slowed up a bit but progress is being made, hoping that we will get a good bit done over the Christmas holidays. Headlining is in, all original except the front roof section, some leftover material from a Cavalier Turbo restoration matched in well. Every...
