Re: Elite restoration begins!

Amazing stuff. Especially interested in the oil pump mods. Most of us worry about oil pressure and flow. Can't wait to hear more once up and running.👍

Re: New comer - Progress (edit)

The torque converter is very heavy - it makes lifting the gearbox almost impossible on your own (if you're weedy like me!). However - the main reason for taking it off is that if it shifts for any reason it will break the oil pump drive dogs inside the gearbox - lots of trouble! Stuart's brace look...

You'd be better to remove the torque converter completely before transporting the gearbox .
Hey Pete, for us (non auto) manual box virgin thickies, can you explain that one? 🤔 Eg. Is it heavy?

Re: Steering Rack removal

I got mine out through the driver's wheel arch about 18 years ago. I put a manual rack in same way. Then recently I put the variable rack back in, but I had the engine out doing a clutch at the time. But it does come out through the wheel arch. 👍

Re: Anti Roll Bar bushes..

Sounds right to me, under braking the roll bar will be forced into the rear of the bush which is what was said, so that's where the solid side of the bush should be. I'm glad you've posted that. I read last night just before bed time and the grey matter just kept churning. But every time I came to ...

Re: Excel article 1985

Graham was no fool, he knew how to spin (and how to subtly cheat by fitting uprated engines in press cars)! Sadly, Colin let him go, but Graham could also sell Graham, so he got a second term as sales director, IIRC.

That lifter should've been available as OE!

And will the crane driver do/pay for the damage rectification?? 🤨

Re: Polestar

I see volvo wants to offload its shares in polestar (48 percent), it will be interesting to see what geely do as they are a major shareholder and comes on the back of a few major manufacturers offloading thier electric divisions. Perhaps reports of the death of combustion engines is a little premat...

A 70 mile trip with a stall in Burford high street and no start for 5 long minutes. A least nothing over took me (they couldn't get past really) .
I hope Harry wasn't filming you. It could ruin our reputation if that got out! 😬

How about recreating this set up at the NEC?

That's a great idea Stu, but where are you going to get that much cardboard and cellophane from? 🤔

Re: Tracking Down Coolant Leaks

You can test the cap pressure with your kit. Just raise the pressure until the seal lifts and you hear air from the overflow outlet on the tank. I did this diy style prior to Evans conversion with a bike tyre valve pushed into a plastic wine cork pushed/clamped into a 5/8 (16 mm) hose attached to No...

Re: Tracking Down Coolant Leaks

I like the tiny pipe stethoscope. A mini-me version of Ian Tyrrell's carb tuning tool! I found a reference to the OE cap pressure value in the Excel SN. There are two given. 10 psi or 15 psi, but no qualification as to application. Which left me wondering if 15 psi is meant for export to hot climes ...

Re: Coolant leak - otter switch

Hi rogbmw. Shortly after converting to Evans on both the Clan and Excel, I carried out a simple, reproducible experiment comparing Evans to tap water as a heat buffer. The predictable outcome was that water is a superior heat buffer (gains and loses heat slowly, comparatively). https://onedrive.live...

Re: Elite interior with lighter coloured wooden panels

That's how it should've looked out of the factory. Much better. A key feature for me is the consistent use of chrome trim around the border of each panel which 'picks up' the chrome around the instruments. The lighter real wood panels make the chrome 'pop'. I don't normally like aftermarket steering...
