Re: Battery

I bought one two years ago from battery2u.co.uk. They provided an excellent, prompt, delivery service and for a price hard to beat. I paid £59.37 - all inclusive - for a Lucas HB075 for my Excel. Don't expect a battery to last more than 7 years and, if the car's left idle for any length of time, rig...

Re: Distributor Options

Thanks for the reply, Stuart. Are you using the Pertronix system; have you had any issues with it?

Re: Distributor Options

I have a query for those with a Pertronix ignition system. Having found significant wear in the bearing of the original distributor in my SA, my mechanic suggested that, whilst attending to this, I should upgrade to a superior electronic system and recommended Pertronix. This has now been done, and ...

Re: SA Gear lever

From memory, it is the BMW 5 series E34, around 1987-1990.

Re: SA Gear lever

The BMW lever is leather- covered, much more pleasant to the touch than the hard plastic of the original. I don:t regret changing mine!

Re: Lotus Excel Rear Seat-belt fixing

I obtained new, stainless steel, non-rust, rear seat-belt fixing plates from Lotusbits. Badly corroded plates should be an MOT failure.

Thanks guys. Yes, now sorted; simple electrical connection fault! Should have picked up it sooner!

Re: Cooling fans don't kick in, fuses, relays, otters all ok

Can someone advise me if both cooling fans should come on, together, in all circumstances? I have one which was seized, now freed up, and works okay when directly connected to power, but does not come on with the other fan . Am now confused!

Re: Intermittent wiper problem

My wiper has recently developed a mind of its own. On starting up it might refuse to operate without a bit of jiggling. Or it might start up automatically without being asked. I guess it has something to do with the switch but I have no idea how to get at it!

Re: Cooling Fan

My offside cooling fan appears to have seized. (Unfortunately, just as I have some longer trips planned).
Any ideas how this can come about? Does it mean a new unit?
(Am wondering if I can risk going ahead with only one fan working).

Re: Fuel System Cleaners - any good?

Back in the 'seventies I regularly added some Wynn's Racing Formula to the oil, with each oil change. This was to a 1000cc Minivan. The performance of that Minivan was quite remarkable, happy to cruise at 70+ and would regularly show 90 on the speedo. A cop who stopped me on one occasion tried to te...
