Re: Red Excel between Clevedon & Yatton

That'll be it.
In 10 years of owning mine I don't think I ever saw another on the road.

It looked so wide and low coming towards me. You fairly local to the area then? Hopefully I may see it again.

Red Excel between Clevedon & Yatton

Late model Excel, looked awesome in amongst the boring traffic.
Made me pine for mine, sold a year ago.

Re: WANTED - Lotus Excel

Hi Nigel, Mine was going to come up for sale in the spring as I thought it would be better timing. I could sell now if you were interested though. It's a 1987 Blue SE with a quite a few thousand spent on it bringing it up to scratch. Ive owned if for nearly 10 years. All the usual Excel problems hav...

Re: Damper bump and rebound

Fair point.

It does mean that the dampers I have should be the same spec as the ones SJ supply. Therefore any setup problems are more down to me than the damper itself, as other people are happy with the Protechs.

Re: Damper bump and rebound

I've spoken to the factory and he gave me the following info: Almost all single adjustable Road dampers have a 2.7:1 bump to rebound ratio (rebound greater than bump) They also have a 12mm dia damper rod. Race type dampers have a 1:1 ratio and a 16mm dia damper rod. So it would seem mine are set up ...

Re: Damper bump and rebound

I was thinking more that they could tweak the internal valving if I sent them back go the factory.

Re: Damper bump and rebound

That's exactly my thinking. I guess they can tailor them to how you want them and I think a little more rebound relative to bump would improve things.

Re: Damper bump and rebound

Thanks chaps.
I think I may give Protech a call on Monday (if they are working) and see what they say.
Cheers.

Re: Damper bump and rebound

That's interesting, I always kind of assumed that it should be a bit 'Lotus' soft.

Maybe I have more of a problem with just rebound being incorrect.

Re: Damper bump and rebound

Hi Richard, Thanks for the info. I'm thinking I might have to send them back to Protech to check the specification. Would you say that if you push down on the rear it moves with the pressure? I just checked mine again and it really barely moves at all at the back. There's always something to keep on...

Damper bump and rebound

Hi all, A while ago I sent my old Protech dampers back to the factory to un seize the adjuster and re- build them. They told me they were too far gone, which they probably were, and could offer a big discount on a new pair. Fair enough. The thing is I find I cant get the setting correct. At first wo...

Re: Door hinge lubrication

My passenger door hinge was seized as well. I fitted grease nipples as a last resort before changing the beam. It worked really well. I kept pumping grease in and also heated the hinge area with a heat gun to make the grease more fluid. (Put some shielding around the door to protect from the heat) I...
