EXCEL SE 1987 For sale
It is with regret that I am putting up my Excel SE for sale. Ive owned this vehicle for eight years and has been my daily drive for 7 of them. Im sticking with the Lotus mark but changing to an Elise and I can't keep them all due to space constraints. So what you get- 1987 Essex Blue Lotus Excel SE....

Iron cross Speedlines. X4
For sale 4 Iron Cross speedlines, I got these to fit winter tyres for my 87 SE only to discover after I’d sprayed them that the center hole is slightly too small to fit the later cars. So 4 silver wheels no tyres in average condition, the inner rim on a couple are not super straight but this could b...

Re: Oil Pressure Problem?
Looks to me like a sender problem as well, I do not have the cold start symptom but often when its warm or hot the needle will jump very quickly around before settling down. If you have corrosion on the spade terminals this will give a jittery gauge as the current flow is so small through the connec...

Re: Value your Excel if you dare!
I don’t think so, needs a re-spray (one not done by myself) and we all know the costings for that. It runs well enough but would benefit from a carb tune and there’s a minor oil leak somewhere around the steering. All of which is minor in itself but would cost to sort combined with 121k on the clock...

Re: Sanity check, please. CDL
Well its 50 50 white/ orange or yellow/ orange (at least on mine which is an 87 model).
As the door does fatigue them every time it opens I would replace both if you suspect a open circuit.

Re: Sanity check, please. CDL
Sounds similar to a problem I had which turned out to be fractured wires at the door hinge. As I have central locking on my alarm I just buzzed out from the actuator to the C/L relay for the alarm but with long meter probes I guess you could check for continuity between both door actuators. I ended ...

Re: VDO Speedo repairing
On mine it was only the outer ring that was magnetised, a bit like a giant “C” clip that fits around the outside of the disc. I don’t think the actual rotor is magnetised as it’s made of an alloy. After removing the odometer drive gear I just tapped the center of the shaft lightly and it came apart ...

Re: VDO Speedo repairing
Sorry I don't use any of the Facebook, google stuff never could be bothered / had cause to. I'll look into Drop box when I have a moment. The photos are basically the gears disassembled and the new gear compared with the old. Once you get the clock open (which is by far the hardest part) its pretty ...

VDO Speedo repairing
So my speedo gave up the ghost on the way back from Le mans Classic and I had nothing to lose by attempting a repair as I had obtained a replacement from Jason Goad anyway :) In my case and I suspect many peoples the Odometer drive gear gets worn out and the grease on the speedo drive dries which ma...

Re: Odometer failed - any tips
My speedo failed a few weeks back. I've taken it apart and the reason for failure was the plastic gear that takes the drive for the odometer has worn out and is fouling the metal worm gear on the speedo input shaft. The VDO sppedo is not too tricky to take apart but the hardest bit is removing the m...

Excel SE VDO Speedo required
Hi,
My Speedo gave up the ghost on the way back from Le Mans Classic on Sunday.
Any one have a spare VDO unit they wish to sell?
Getting it repaired looks close to the price of a dealer second hand unit
Thanks.

Re: 123 ignition again.
I'm not saying the AB14 is faulty, just saying I don't know if it is. I could get another pick up and replace the loom from the pick up to AB14, also replace the AB14 to coil wiring which would eliminate a large chuck of possible failure points but I'll still be left with a worn distributor and the ...
