Re: ULEZ charges

Thanks, Tony... am taking it to the Bromley Pageant this Sunday (massive one-day classic show, if you don't know it) & putting a detailed For Sale notice in the window. So will let the fates decide! Win-win in my book. If someone expresses interest & ultimately buys it, I get a chunk of much-needed ...

Re: ULEZ charges

Just to put in my two-penn'th, I think in the original post Richard was mistaking - after clicking 'Further Chargeability' - the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) for the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). The Low Emission Zone already exists in many areas of Greater London and parts of the inner Home Counties, ...

Re: Travelling Wiper!

Thanks, John… and Stu (am I remembering right?). Though I wish it were otherwise, in truth I’m not a rebuilding the wiper motor kind of guy. With an issue like this, a short-term fix - that might give me even just an hour or so of stress-free driving in the rain - is more up my street. So although I...

Travelling Wiper!

Hope you're all well. Any ideas please for discouraging the single wiper on my '88 Excel SE from wiping the top of the bonnet??!! The problem isn't with the spindle, the location & operation of which seem fine. But rather the wiper arm staying (or not!) securely attached to it without straying. No m...

Great looking car, Shaun, and great colour. Is that Pacific Blue?

Re: next one window motors

Ah, many thanks, Pete.

Took a few photos when I exposed the window workings. Looking back at them I can now see the top 2 bolts. The other 2 must be further down, hidden in the shadows of the photo.

Re: next one window motors

Ah, thanks very much, Tony. Just to clarify though - and save me taking the door card off again to check - to undo those 4 bolts would I need to remove the entire black inner door skin? Rather than just the the smaller panel that exposes the motor & part of the workings. If the former, must say remo...

Re: next one window motors

Question for Pete, if you don't mind? Pete - when you say can you move the glass by hand through its travel range, how do you do that exactly? Took my passenger door card off a few days ago. Fixed the lock that had dropped inside the door (the main incentive for removing!) quite quickly with a bead ...

Re: Blue Excel D939OHR in Penarth

That's an interesting observation about Pacific Blue cars. I've often thought the same. My first Excel, bought in 1985 at 3 years old (the car, not me) was Calypso Red. My drive home from work often took me past Caterham in Surrey, where there was a tiny Bell & Colvill office & showroom with room fo...

Echo that.

Strange to think that, not many years ago, £2800 would have bought a very respectable fully running car.

Re: 1988 Excel SE - electric window question

Many thanks, Marten & Bash… most illuminating. Having viewed the motor link though, Bash, comprehensive though it is, I think if the problem on mine is the motor I’ll be replacing it. You’re clearly leagues ahead at such stuff than me!!  Hugely useful though, to know what I’m looking at...

1988 Excel SE - electric window question

Happy New Year to All. On the passenger side of my 1988 Excel SE, the electric window's not working. My electrics knowledge is sparse, but both Window Lift relays click when the switch is pressed for up or down. Have swapped the 2 relays around, no difference. And the 25 amp fuse is OK*. But the win...

Re: Excel - My new daily Driver

Hi Rafael, Based on the YouTube video, that's a lovely looking car. In the 1980's I had a Mk1 Excel in that exact colour, but with the original 'gunpowder' coloured lower section. Personally, with the removable wrap I would try to replicate the dark grey. Or leave them red, as they currently are. I ...

Re: Auction house in Newcastle upon Tyne

Have always liked the dark green cars. Reminds me of the one in Howard's Way.

Don't personally like the dark dash top. Though I imagine it's to banish reflections. Looks well done though.
