Re: F***TFX

Thank you Angus for pointing this out. The car in question belongs to me and we were on our way to Anglesey for the weekend, but I can't own up to being behind the wheel, and I am suprised the brake lights were even seen at all as I think the other half hardly touched them on the way there! And may ...

I also remember having a problem with my fans cutting in and out erratically even from start up before the engine got hot, i replaced the rad fan sensor on top of the rad, and that cured my problem.

You should only check and fill the front compartment for the coolant level as the other is the expansion tank, and make sure the coolant level is full to the top in the front compartmant. Although it sounds like something else is going on sorry can't be of further help. Is your fan fail light coming...

You can take on board what the guys are saying, and as it's mostly true i have not once needed the choke just a bit of nursing into life in the winter and it's never let me down, but if your like me and want things working as they should then for a few quid what the hell. :)

Thanks for that, i will go through the check list but i'm tempted to think it could be aliens! I have noticed that this has been happening for a while, it wasn't coming on when the coolant level was slightly low and then i topped it up and went on a good 50 mile run and it has stayed on ever since. ...

Hum....will get on it tomorrow. Just to double check see if your right. What about the connections on the header tank could they have broken down, as i presume the two wires coming off of it are the low coolant sensor.

This cannot be due to water getting in as my car is now water tight after an all nighter riping out the interior to trace a water leak which turned out to be a leak through the wiper grommet. live and learn. What else can be causing it to stay on?

Fan fail light

My fan fail light is staying on all the time, both fans cut in at the right time and the header tank is filled up to the top and it is not losing coolant, i have no problem with it over heating. Could it be a dodgy connection?

It's just rude when that happens, i picked up a nail a couple of weeks after having new tyres on, fortunately mine was repairable. New tyres seem to act as magnets to sharp pointy objects.
