Re: car purchase
Speedo still bouncy at low speed and oddly seems to 'tick' quite loudly? IIRC the bounciness is a sticky cable and the tick could be the mileometer. I've had to take mine out a couple of times in 250k miles., Fitted a 'cone' filter to the airbox (which now looks so much better than the elephant tru...

Re: Lotus excel cassette recording
That's great to hear the story behind recording,my 1990 excel SE does not sound as good as that, but I have never revved it that high I think? My normal max on the road was 6,500, but I'd go to 6,800 on the track. Never been to the rev-limiter though, unlike my Elan M100NA which was taken to it all ...

Re: Lotus excel cassette recording
Update: found the audio, does anyone have somewhere to upload and share about 5Mb? That's the Excel part as .mp3, the whole thing with six cars is 18Mb of .ogg file. File of just the Excel part is at http://www.mikecauser.org.uk/media/media/audio/Excel.mp3 When I figure out how to use the content m...

Re: Lotus excel cassette recording

Re: New Owner of a familiar Excel
Keen eye!!! I have them on hand and they were painted, I actually very much prefer the look without them from behind and will probably just leave them off, but they are available if needed. I also read they may cause some air drag and limit top end, so I can write it off as a performance mod!!! Tha...
Re: US Owner
MikeC, I'll take you up on the offer if you are still looming about, Yeah I'm still here. Can't remember if this software does PMs but if it doesn't find me through MikeC2011 on Flickr. I was resident in the USA for 6 years and looked briefly at buying a new Esprit S1.5, but bought a VW Scirocco in...

Re: Original front shock absorbers
mikec: Thanks for that, might be good to measure them but results could vary, depends how well Koni replicated the original rates when they made those for you back in 1985. Well, being Konis you had to get them off the car, compress and twist them, but IIRC about 1 turn from fully soft was similar ...

Re: Original front shock absorbers
Anyone got a pair of new original front Excel shock absorbers that we could use to measure the compression/rebound rates? I have been discussing getting some Koni shocks to fit but need to see if they can be made with the correct rates. The Koni importer in 1985 (Banks, Crowland) was given the full...

60/70s Elan, yellow, Suffolk
Standing by the side of the road in the village of Moulton in Suffolk with Peter Day [1] we spotted an Elan Type 45 going into a restaurant car park about 200m away. Yellow, possibly over white, with a roll-over bar. By the time we were finished for the afternoon it had gone. [1] Waiting to be let i...

XK 140
Not a Lotus, but about as rare as an Elite on the road. Pale blue Jaguar XK140 on Burwell High Street at close to midday on Monday.
So nice to see it being used, I can't remember when I last saw one. Best looking of the XKs in my view.

Re: Elite Riviera, Newmarket
Any pictures, reg number, details? Great find :-) I do know one customer of Gerald's who has one and I am sure I took some photos of it a few years ago but haven't found them yet. I do need to drop off a DVD with movies of the Daytune days featuring Gerald and Neil so I'll ask who it was when I do....

Elite Riviera, Newmarket
It's common to see lots of Lotuses near Gerald Turner's premises, but today around 15:30 there was an Elite Riviera driven by someone I didn't recognise. Only 7 were made of of the Elite Riviera and as far as I know GST knock off at lunchtime on Saturdays. Gerald is driving to work in his brown Plus...

Re: Esprit V8
On a twisty road with no-one watching I'd take the 918 although you're very aware it's a large, heavy and fast (!) car. In the wet the 912 gets my vote. A borrowed 918 holds the record for the highest figure on the speedo I've seen in a car -- and that was on a country road. A VFR750 on a duel-cabba...
