I've taken the cam belt covers off and I have to say that it looks pretty healthy. It's not frayed out cracked at all, the teeth all look good.
It's been stood for about three years, would you guys change it anyway?
Here's a pic.

Re: Members map?
Hi Gary,
I'm fine with a week night if you think it can be done quickly enough. I was expecting it to take me AGES!
Do you recommend that I buy an original lotus belt? I've seen a few folks talking about Peugeot 405 belts being the same..and a quarter of the price!
Cheers,
D

Re: Members map?
Any other East London/Essex/Kent members? I checked and saw Nick in Romford and a couple of markers over near Orpington? I would really like to have a chat with some members local-ish to me, I am about to undertake my first cam-belt change and I'm nervous. I'm kind of hoping that someone who's done ...

Hi Hawaiis0,
What's your shopping list looking like?
Mine's getting pretty scary! Beginning to wonder whether I should have just bought a better one to begin with but I guess that defeats the object of having a project..

If stored well they can be very simple to get running well again.
That's music to my ears!
The shopping list is already adding up so I really don't want to do all of that and find that there's something more serious wrong. I'll try to stay optimistic!

Ignition upgrades?
I want to give my new Excel a really thorough service and I'd like to replace/upgrade the ignition to the most reliable/best performance. I've seen in Lotusbits guide that the Motorola coil is better than the Lucas one which is currently fitted to mine I would also like to use iridium plugs (if you ...

First day of ownership
Hi all, I'm Dave. I've just taken receipt of my first Lotus Excel, some of you may have seen it on Ebay recently. http://s5.postimg.org/ujy9t58sn/20130722_180902.jpg Body isn't bad, interior is a bit tired. I'm a little nervous about how mechanically sound it is but it has been stood for a while. I'...
