Re: RIP Oliver Winterbottom
Likewise I would also up for some form of send off at the right time. I have a fond memory of him signing his book for me. He asked me what I wanted written with the autograph at donnington festival. I replied “I am just a simple man write what you wish” Oliver proceeded to sign the book with dedic...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
Ive had a look, they should only fail a car if its near the fuel system or there is a risk of fire.......... Which means it open to interpretation by the tester, again !!!! Another interpretation is depending how much business the tester wants to drum up (dealer ?). I bet you can still pass a landr...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
Things got worse for me today! Still no head space to ring around insurance companies. :( My 30yo son rang early this morning to say he has put £60 of Diesel in the VW Camper and the fuel gauge still reads low... Turns out the numpty has filled the DRINKING water tank with DIESEL! How do I divorce m...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
It really depends on what you call a heat shield - the Excel has three as far as I remember - one on the body just behind the exhaust manifold and one above each silencer. Not sure when those above the silencers were first fitted, but I think all had the forward one. The Elite has one on the nearsi...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
Never go to a dealer for an mot, Ive heard this story so many times. Plus, Ive never heard of the heat shield one ? Bash Yeah my old school MOT chaps told me last year that any missing heat shield is now a FAIL 2020 onwards rather than advisory. So that's exhaust, CAT shields etc. BUT the MOT man h...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
Didn't have the head space to ring around for insurance today! Replaced one front disc/pads on the daughters Prius. Too cold to do the other side...tomorrow it's set to be sunny..so it can wait. She was quoted by the Toyota main dealer (where she has a service plan) that it would cost £1600 t...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
Im also offended, surely ex police officers should be on the list. I worked extremely hard at being a professional knob for over 29 years. Could you please edit your list and include me. Bash Ps, Im enjoying the sillyness here, its been sadly lacking of late and we have all been letting the club do...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
Peter, I have to say how offended I am by your remark. I used to be a journalist before I opened my estate agency and I can tell you I currently have many satisfied clients. I also intend to stand for Parliament at the next general election in 2024. Last year my wife left a successful career in ban...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
Thanks for the advice. Going to ring round all recommendations tomorrow and report back here. Insurance folk are in the same league as journalists, estate agents, politicians, bankers, lawyers, vampires and parasites in my book, so I guess there will be quite a lot of variation in blood loss ... dep...

Re: Peter James Insurance price hike
I use Routen Chaplin for my Elite restoration project - might be worth giving them a call. I was given their details by a fellow Lotus owner who worked for them. Pete Thanks Pete. They a a new one on me (which is good). Will call them tomorrow. Right now I have to to go into the garden to lay turf ...

Peter James Insurance price hike
Just got a renewal quote from PeterJames with near £200 uplift on last year for a 3 vehicle policy as they changed the underwriter! Phoned them and they can't improve it. Point is they want nearly £600 for 3 vehicles (Lotus Clan and Camper) compared to £460 for FOUR vehicles last year when the Smart...

Re: Automatic transmission hesitation
So...it's been almost three years since I visited this topic. Ultimately, the hesitation problem (fade out at start-off - low speed acceleration) returned. In late 2019, I took the car down to a carburettor specialist near Winchester on the recommendation of another owner. These guys definitely kno...
