Re: Prices on the up.
..and NO power steering fluid tank to be seen in the engine bay shots. Discuss? 1 - manual rack fitted 2 - electro-hydraulic pump fitted 3 - all electric conversion Who knows?? Pete I've done the manual rack myself in the past, and I wouldn't mind any of the other two options if they worked well. B...

Re: News from Lotus
Unfortunately for the doomsters, electric car development won't stop the non-manmade global temperature cycles that have gone on for many an aeon. https://qyvb6g.am.files.1drv.com/y4m1sI0-TP6xndYlkRz8Ab09SMgtF8a9oQIyjm7fT6biWgz5eiU7HIlvahWVz_fXWgyueBSz80fAxNFjolVj9LnpakP4eXLnmTNgatXodB1-LoQQPPdQg9Yi...

Re: long trip happy engine report
Back in North Yorkshire. Engine never missed a beat. A number of Range Rover Sports put in their place. I don't understand why it was only Range Rover Sports that wanted to have a go but their poor aero clearly kicks-in at high speed just when the Excel lowers it's skirt and flies... :? I think the ...

Re: long trip happy engine report
OK. took note of the pre- and post-filter oil pressure delta today @ tickover... 88C oil temp for both sump and pre-filter line temps in traffic @ 20c ambient ....less than 0.5 bar difference (so maybe only 5 or six psi). Bear in mind it takes 3 psi to 'pop' the non return diaphragm valve - so in su...

Re: long trip happy engine report
Just as an experiment - if your remote mount still accepts an original-style filter - you could also do the same tests with an original filter to see what differences in pressure there are. I'm also considering a remote filter mount as well - if there's still room in that part of the engine bay! Pe...

Re: long trip happy engine report
Great report Peter 8) . I'm astounded at such a large drop in pressure through the filter - the "ordinary" filters must be even worse. I wonder how many reports of suspect pressure (especially at tickover) are just the result of the filter? Pete Hello Pete At IDLE the pre and post filter pressure d...

Re: long trip happy engine report
Nice report Peter (I'll skip the bit about your wife!) I'd be interested to know what oill pressure you get using the Valvoline 5w/50 (especially hot idle), and how it compares with what you used to get using Castrol 10w/60. The low oil consumption is interesting. Good fuel consumption too. Cheers,...

long trip happy engine report
I'm on holiday in Devon atm having made the trip down from North Yorkshire in the Lotus last Sunday. I haven't done a long trip in the Excel since Cornwall 2016 so I was a little on-edge about using it for a long trip untested since then. Happily, so far, (touch wood) all has gone well. I expected s...

Re: Steering column "knock"
Good result! The next question I'd ask myself is ..why were they loose? I've never taken the steering wheel off my Excel (and I've had it longer than the previous 2 owners combined) so haven't got a clue why anyone would want to. EDIT: And I mean that from a 'being stupid and can't think" point of v...

Re: Air Horn faults.
If you take off the lower radiator cowl the horns are very easily accessible. On my 89SE at least, there are six fixings for the lower rad cowl. Two lower radiator 10 mm AF nut fixings, two self tappers into the body close by the said rad fixings, and two into the front spoiler somewhere near the Fo...

Re: Gearbox removal
Thanks all, that was also my toughts, but maybe there are smarter quys like me. i rebuild my engine and after running 1 hour i saw that a few drops of oil were coming from the rear crankshaft seal. So i thought i would an option to leave the engine in place and remove the gearbox to get this seal f...
