Re: Oil Pressure relief valve

I have a hydraulic pressure guage, no electrics, and had noticed a sudden reduction in start up (cold) pressure. I thought it could be a sticking pressure valve. On dismantling the oil pump I found the rotors fine but to fully dismantle the pressure valve is a bit of a hassle and I have no spares he...

Oil Pressure relief valve

Has anyone increased oil pressure by installing a stronger spring to the relief valve, or by packing the spring with washer/s?
And while at it, what maximum pressure would be recommended when the relief valve opens?
Also are stronger springs available, I see no reference at SJS?

Re: Rear radius arms and spacers

To be pedantic, if you normally drive the car with the driver only and no kids in the back, you should set suspension dimensions, all four wheels for ride height, toe-in, camber and even castor with your equivalent weight in the driver seat. This saves getting your partner to sit for a couple of hou...

Elite Original Handbook 1974

While clearing out I came across my Elite Handbook (complete with electrical diagrams) and Dealer network. Any offers? Better with someone else than sitting on my shelf. Re: workshop manual electrical section

Hi Clive. I am very pleased you have got your Excel. On this Forum, under General you can find Online Parts Manual. This will cost you 30 pounds but is well worth it as a reference as it is complete with diagrams. For your info I have renewed the downpipe, speedo cable and now resealing the saddle c...

Re: Best brakes to fit on (or inside) standard wheels

For ordinary brake parts, including calipers, try Brakes International. Cheaper than renovating, ask for your discount. For master/slave cylinders Land Rover are best value new bits. Fitting a Turbo will give you more headaches than other power raising alternatives which are readily available. Dave ...

Richard, thanks for the Posting.
Also a tribute to the Elite and to a lesser degree the Excel.
I also noticed a reference to Angus Marshall, another well earned tribute.

Re: Instrument lights

To get to the dimmer you need to get to behind the main dash panel. There is a post on this showing where the two wing nuts are. Briefly for a non SE car; Gearlever knob off and remove leather cover. Radio out, normally with a couple of flat steel prongs to release the side clips. Remove the two air...

Re: Excel (and Lotus) magazine scans

I have recently had the Eclat/Excel enigma delay the registering of my car in Spain. I wrote to Lotus who very kindly responded with the following text: quote ...The Lotus Eclat was introduced in late 1975 as a Lotus type 79. During 1980 the Eclat S2 was introduced as a Lotus type 84. The Type 84 ha...

Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

I have asked my mate Clive, an ex GKN Engineer then Land Rover and Jaguar transmission specialist, regarding drive shaft location. Quote> With the introduction of CV joints it allows for a low axial load and better control of the suspension and general refinement. There are several driveshaft CV joi...

Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

I will now be less pedantic. I had expected a CV at the wheel side and a U/J at the diff side. Effectively we have a CV at both wheel and differential ends of the drive shaft, which made me think we would have an uncontrolled floating (axially) drive shaft. Obviously not but I don´t know why. Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

To be pedantic, do we have Constant Velocity (CV) joints or Universal Joints U/J´s?

And while on drive shafts, is there a supplier for reasonably priced differential output shaft oil seals other than our
usual supplier?

Re: New member - Excel SA

Neil, you may have seen Posts on Wiring Diagram needed. Stu (Hawaii00) has got the 50-odd page document which if you do not have will be very useful to obtain. It has all the original wiring colour schemes. Pete, if you were to work on Neil`s apparent scene you could write a book on Therapeutical Re...

Re: New member - Excel SA

To help ilumination try LED bulbs, also less need for fuse change but if you find wrong fuses in your fuse box
no doubt after someone fiddled there I would revise and install all fuses according to factory.

Re: Wiring diagram needed

For Stu. Full MF diagrams received, many thanks. I am new to LED bulbs, they are not the smae as incandescent (ordinary) bulbs. You cannot test them with resistance check. They also need to be pole set when they can be fitted in a none definitive holder (no bayonet fitting). If your battery is low ....
