Re: Propshaft

Your experts should know. However ask them if the usual doughnut rubber ring could be incorporated at the gearbox end, space may be a no-goer. Then you can tell all of us Excel owners who are no longer sleeping until we have checked are own prop setup. Your expert could have a bit of good business c...

Re: Propshaft

As Lotusbits has secondhand props, Mike can quickly answer your question on 60º phase.
Perhaps the diff is in line with the gearbox, and as both are fixed relatively, phasing other than 0º is not critical.
Please post here your solution.

Re: Fluttering Fuel and Coolant Temperatute guages

My car has VDO guages and I am now sure there was originally no Voltage stabiliser. Anyway I installed a new stabiliser across the water temp. and fuel guages. I then found the cable connector to the water temp. sender, a simple bayonet type clip, to be loose so I nipped it up. I also put 30-odd lit...

Crinkle Black. Having said that, I admit I have painted Calypso Red the Air Filter and timimg belt guard, I considered the smooth black a bit ugly, and should some future owner prefer black it is very easy to remove the red. https://81lrqq.db.files.1drv.com/y4m63Fg5P1a0VYMqYs0o-2DAjQvVyogL5hRkLgF9OG...

Re: Evija vs Elite - aerodynamic designs

While enjoying Richards enthusiasm for the Elite Aerodynamics, I believe certain comments are not strictly in line with airflow characteristics. -Preventing air exit under the rear of the engine compartment- The front air scoop is what directs the air through the radiator, and exiting air over the b...

Re: O-Rings Steering Rack

As the O-rings are cheap I suggest you buy at least six and different thicknesses. You don´t need Ford specific O-rings. When you fit the hoses to the rack the flat plate that the single bolt holds the hoses in place can be short of holding the hoses in place. If you put an extra (or two) O-ring in ...

Re: Recolouring Leather/Vinyl

I previously used Woolies Trim products and was really pleased with the renovation, including scratches to the
leather around door handles and cowling behind steering wheel.
Samples are taken by lifting a door card and cutting from a hidden area. However Woolies know Lotus colours.

Re: Late Excel SE - Search steps up.

I don´t know of a timeline list. Do you have the Mike Taylor Improving the Elite, Eclat & Excel document , dated 2007. It is mainly engine development. A couple of answers. Cam covers went red with the HC engine in 1986. Black saddle covers can be made oil tight, just preform and best silicone in tw...

Re: SA 1989 Claret Red

Welcome Alangs1200 to the Forum. Regarding the Automatic, I have been playing around repairing the same box from my XJ40, hence the comments. Oil and filter change is normally easy and tells you the condition of the box. It might not be easy in the Excel. The XJ40 has a transmission cooler within th...

Re: Which grade bolts do I need?

The strength of seat runner bolts IMO is not critical. In a front end crash the body leaves the seat behind, the safety belts take the load and in the Excel, front belts are anchored laterally, no shear, and backseat by a large external plate. In a crash from behind the two front runner bolts will t...

Non-cancelling Indicators

Does anyone have non-cancelling indicators, that is when the steering wheel returns to straight it doesn`t cancel the indicators. Mine were like that, I found the small flexible plastic arms that do the job had gone stiff and did not return the indicator switch. New ones are available from Rimmers a...

Re: windscreen washer jets

I ordered from e-Bay some washer jets designated for the XJ40 some months ago. What arrived were bog standard jets for any car. Later I ordered some Underbody adhesive sound insulation foam, long delivery time, and a flame test showed the material was more suited as Fire Lighters, and subsequently h...

Alan, thanks for the Video. I have been struggling to get there and have been helped by several forum members.
