I do not believe it to be the last car by chassis number but it might have been the last car signed off. There were, in fact, 6 Silk Red cars built. All 92MY, of course, but some were 1991 builds and some were 1992.
A great find, that picture.

Re: C&SC looking for trouble
I don't think there was a standard for 92MY badging but I am pretty sure that both roundel and text Lotus badging is not original.

Good luck, Ian. I recall seeing the car at Hethel in 2008. It's the only 1992MY car in that colour.

Re: Oliver Winterbottom at Woodfordes Show, Woodbastwick
In his book, Oliver writes about his time working in China circa 2004 and this included a short period with London taxi, "working with the Geely Group".

Re: 1992 Excel
It's definitely a 1992 MY car. Silk Red was only available for that one year (similar but different shades were used in earlier years). There were fourteen 92MY cars built before yours. Your 'build date' is the date of first registration in the UK, the actual build date will be somewhere between Jul...

Re: 1992 Excel
I think the interior is a slightly different colour, Bill, otherwise the same.
I thought you chaps over the pond liked to refer to your cars by model year, by the way, which would make your car a 92. I know it was built in '91, though, so it's not wrong as such.

1992 Excel - deposit taken
Too many cars mean that I really ought to move on my Excel now, so it's now for sale: £4750. It's a run-out model in Silk Red and full gold tan perforated leather. (92MY, completed Jan '92.) The engine was rebuilt in 2016. Standard spec, partly built by a Lotus technician and finished off, tested an...

Re: More efficient replacement Head light bulbs
I use Osram Nightbreakers in several cars and they give a decent upgrade over standard bulbs.

Re: Getting round to sorting interior quandary
Doesn't sound all that different to my mat, other than the glue, but glue on its own isn't brilliant in this scenario (experience talking) hence my interest in what else stops it moving, so what are you using to secure it? My mat, by the way, is the only carpet there, it sits on the insulation, whic...

Re: Getting round to sorting interior quandary
So how are you fitting the carpet in the footwell, is it a separate piece or a single run from the rear seat (or a.n. other), and what will hold it in place? Genuinely interested in alternative solutions.

It was a statement of fact; it's only my choice to leave them there.
Good luck with whatever you have ordered.

Re: Getting round to sorting interior quandary
The original Lotus mats in my car are fixed in place by fasteners that pop onto a bracket mounted between the seat runners, so there's no chance of them moving.

Re: Getting round to sorting interior quandary
I'd suggest the best answer to your dilemma (not enough options given for it to be a quandary...) is the black with red piping, although you could try some red carpet mats (original mats on my car are dark red to match the paintwork). I also fitted a Coverdale carpet set, and it's true that it doesn...

Re: Number Crunch Update
I know it's somewhat off topic but stumbling across this thread while searching for something else reminded me to check up on colours. So, just for the record, the 1985 Excel that was thought by a previous owner to be Silk Red was, in fact, Jupiter Red, code A30 (confirmed by a photo posted on its r...

Re: Bargain???
I am aware of the naming. My point being that they describe an Eclat "1975 to 1982" with 1973cc engine, completely missing the Excel part and all the changes of the newer model. It's just very poor.
