Re: Dash Wood Veneers

I can let you have the dimensions for positions and size of holes. Not easy to drill that accurately though. The sets I made do fit, but aren't 100% fit around the dials. Tony Thanks Tony. I have the 2 original sets for the cars. Might try and find somewhere that can accurately copy them. I’ll then...

Re: First job jobbed - 2 more found !!!

Nice write up. I had similar and found just adjusting the one rod for it all working again.
Before adjusting I could only get mine to latch if I held the handle in the open position, pushed the door shut and released then handle.

Just checked, not bad but not perfect either. I'll put photos up on ebay now
Thanks, I did have a look, but a little too warped. Think I may have to get some remade.

Re: Dash Wood Veneers

Can’t quite tell from photos - are they warped or is the surface completely flat.
Are they squashed/ depressed where the screws go?

Not too worried about the veneer, I can redo that, but need a flat panel as mine are badly warped.

Re: Radiator Replacement - Chinese aluminium radiator

If the radiator is being squeezed it is worth checking the front body mounts. These can crack and if they do the width of the gap the radiator is mounted in will be slightly narrowed.

Re: Another timing belt question

I didn't know about the higher spec HNBR belt, I need to do mine so will order this one over the normal T104 belt. Can I check what people are using to check tension? I've heard of people using a guitar tuner app on their phone, and then using the frequency of the belt when plucked. This seems like...

Re: Monaco white more than one shade?

Ps, 2k single stage and 2k clear pose a serious health risk - do your research.
Also you will need to sand down to gel coat and then reseal - again a 2k epoxy is best for this.

Re: Monaco white more than one shade?

20 year old paint will have changed colour and polishing won’t fully restore it to the same as new paint. Also the 89 does not use cellulose - that was out of date even in 89. It was painted in a 2k clear over solvent basecoat. If you don’t want to go this route and just go for something to smarten ...

I'm relatively new to the Excel world too, so I can stand corrected but I believe it was optional from the get go and was standard on the SE which came along 85/86.

Still an option on the SE
Only ever standard on the SA, celebration and possibly the post celebration models (at least in the UK)

Re: Old Paint Problems

Etch primer is for metal, not GRP, use 2k epoxy primer.
If you get any fry up, use Barcoat to seal the surface, but if you’re wanting paint to last make sure you remove ALL paint that is not 100% solid.

Re: Old Paint Problems

Could all be microblister that you’ve sanded the tops off. Keeping the car with a cover over it in the winter is one of the best ways to cause that. Looking at that, I would say if you want the next paint job to last you will need to sand all that off. Do not wet sand, use net type abrasive and sand...
