Re: Cam belt tension/timing

It doesn't really matter, as long as it's up to hajf a tooth out. If it's more , then adjust it to the next tooth. There's no adjustment to this , unless you have adjustable cam sprockets. It can be made worse if a head is skimmed as it shortens the distance between the crank sprocket and head sproc...

Yes, pulley is the same, doesn't matter what angle one it is (104, 107 etc).

Re: Celebration for sale

If it was to reach the upper end of that guide price, it would end up costing the buyer more than the £17k of a previous auction elsewhere, (£14,782 + 12.5 + 2.5% (VAT on the 12.5%).

Re: Celebration

Doesn't look like it's a big thing to fix, and with the lacquer peel elsewhere it's ripe for a respray that keeps it all one colour.

Re: Carpets, reliable supplier needed!

I have a set that came with a car and believe they are Coverdale, they match the shapes I've come to expect, and for the treasons that Alan has shown, I plan to get a set from a person who makes carpets for Esprits but as yet doesn't have a set of Excel to make the patterns from (I will have to remo...

Re: Excel Windscreen wiper arm spindle nut

I would have thought they're technically an imperial 5/16 but with an M8 fitting as it's slightly bigger hole but only by a fraction of a mm. Reason for thinking that is that those wiper wheel boxes are ancient design and used on BL cars of the 70s when everything was imperial.

Re: ANNOUNCING THE WINTERBOTTOM RUN 2022

Gutted I couldn't make it at all in the end. I was still logged on and working past 6pm on Friday, that nice early finish didn't happen.

Re: Headlining material

I thought you'd done something like the 1970s vinyl roof but with brushed nylon.

Re: Headlining material

In the Excel, the headlining is a brushed-nylon backed with foam and originally a thin scrim but now it seems we just don't get the scrim back.

Thanks Richard but don't think I'll be able to make the other aspects though.

Re: ANNOUNCING THE WINTERBOTTOM RUN 2022

Is there a chance of adding one to the run please? I wasn't sure I'd have a viable car for it but now am sure that I will.

Re: Windscreen Top Edge Trim

Here's the stuff that I think is generally used, you'll see it's quite different but as there's such a massive chasm to be filled by sealant it doesn't really matter, it still goes in. Image

Access / visibility to adjust door latch rods

How do people get sufficient visibility and access to adjust the rods for the outside door handles? I had to changer the door shell & frame, so the door shell has now gone back on and is probably in a slightly different place to the old one, as well as it probably being slightly different positionin...

Re: Waterpump dismantle tips?

You definitely need a press, you also need to heat it quite a lot to get the aluminium to expand more than the steel, else you'll be pulling some of the ali with the bearings and the pump will likely fail in the near future.

Re: Under bonnet plate replacement source

Worth a call to Lotusbits, for example Mike has the stickers for the coolant expansion tanks, so may have had these done as well, although maybe less likely as most might not bother with that far for a respray (or tape over it to protect it) whereas the tanks rust and loose the sticker.
