Re: Tracking Down Coolant Leaks

R/B is Replaced By.. OK. Which would imply that they started with the 10 psi cap, but then Lotus in their infinite wisdom, for some reason that I'm sure is a good one but we don't know what, switched to 15 psi. Not wanting to second-guess their excellent engineers, I'll trust that there was a good ...

Re: Tracking Down Coolant Leaks

According to the parts manual , it says "R/B 15 psi cap A082K6031F", implying that whatever isn't R/B should have the 10 psi cap A075K6004Z. But I'm not sure what the "R/B" stands for? The SJ Sportscar parts page doesn't really make it much clearer. It does say that the 15 psi cap is for the early s...

Re: Tracking Down Coolant Leaks

Still WIP. Yesterday I found a split in the short fat hose that goes from the water pump to the inlet manifold. This is new, it wasn't there when I did most of this work over the New Year, and it was losing coolant rapidly (see FaceBook for a pic!). I've temporarily stuck a bicycle tyre patch over t...

Tracking Down Coolant Leaks

OK, in the last month or so I've had more practice at this than I would like, so I thought it would be worth sharing what I've been doing. Undoubtedly the most useful bit of kit to help with this is a coolant pressure test kit. They can be picked up pretty cheaply from eBay, but you are welcome to b...

Re: Gauge Lighting

Just curious but have you noticed a dull glow from the interior lights when the doors are shut? So dull you can only see when dark. When I changed mine to LEDs I had this, caused by the time delay relay and wondered if I had a dodgy relay or they all do it. Not noticed this. But the door lights are...

Looks like a good result.

You need to use the BBCode to get the pictures to show up in your post.

Re: Gauge Lighting

Final conclusion - job done, and I'm pretty pleased with it. I originally looked to buy them from Better Car Lighting , as they seem like a really good business. But I couldn't ignore the fact that they were a lot cheaper on eBay, I ended up buying them all from a seller called LED Bulbs For Classic...

Re: NEC Restoration Show 2024 - Discounted Tickets

N.B. the rule from previous years about keeping the code secret to members only has been lifted, so this code can be made as widely available as we like, and publicised anywhere we want. I'll get it on the various FB groups as soon as I can get around to it... Well, almost. We can publicise it anyw...

Re: Elite 50th Anniversary - Banner / Display ?

I posted about our plans to celebrate the Elite 50th across several Lotus-related Facebook groups I belong to (Lotus Excel, Lotus Elite/Eclat/Excel Owners, Lotus Owners, Lotus Remembered - for ex-employees). Plenty of enthusiasm, judging by the number of "Likes" (or they just liked the pic of Chapma...

Re: Coolant leak - otter switch

"...the rad fans will have a drawn-out fight against the incoming faster-flowing hot water passing through the rad..." Yes, that's exactly what we want if the engine is hot, because that is what will extract the greatest amount of heat from the engine itself. Yes I agree that more absolute heat is ...

Re: Coolant leak - otter switch

I don't think I share Peter's philosophy on the thermostat/fan switch strategy. My view is that the engine normal operating temperature is more of a (narrow-ish) range, not a single target temperature. The thermostat is there to prevent the coolant dropping below the bottom of the range, and to ensu...

My pump kinda caught fire

Pete
Fortunately only the electrical points bit of it, no fuel ignited. But it wasn't a good moment. I still managed to bodge in a replacement pump by the roadside, and complete the journey!

Would the later version with the screw in sensor not give what you need, or something like these, ian. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=32mm++inline+housing&_sacat=0&_odkw=32mm+Sensor+Hose+inline&_osacat=0&_sop=15&LH_PrefLoc=1 https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i...
