Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

Interesting Tony - admittedly I did use a breaker bar with a medium extension to clear the CV and they were certainly tight - but not as tight as yours it seems!

Good luck with the MOT!

Hi Richard

Don't know him but saw the photos and the car is a credit to him that's for sure 👍

Cheers

Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

Dave Output shaft seals:- SJ wanted £26 each plus the usual silly postage charges. Mike did them for £15 each over the phone but I note he charges £40/pair (inc. postage) on the ebay site. I didn't try Toyota but they could be cheaper I guess if they still have them. Possibly these but not 100% sure...

Re: Drive shaft removal - Easy as it looks?

Yes it's dead easy - even easier if you can rotate the wheels whilst on stands as it helps to have the best access to the nuts possible as they are invariably corroded as Pete suggests. Had to do mine twice due to defective output shaft seals supplied first time... Took the opportunity to re-grease ...

Re: Excel Interior Update

Zooming in on your side bolsters I reckon the link below would repair them quite well with patience. It's what I used with some success on my centre console that was badly chewed in places. https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/heavy-filler I'm sure Woolies (which some seem to prefer) offer something si...

Re: Excel Interior Update

That's taken some effort to achieve Tony and is certainly an effective upgrade 👍 For me the seats are crying out for the centre sections to be dyed black to match the headrests and would go further towards your 'de-browning' target. Reckon that would look really good. On the Lotus badge - if you lik...

Re: Seat Frame Repair and Woolies Leather Renovation

Looks excellent Bryan, you must be very happy with it.

The area behind the binnacle is really difficult to get right - I had the same issue with mine.

Love the mascot in the centre console :D

Re: 1986 Excel SE

Thanks Tony.

I will have a chat with Mike, a good idea I think.

I'm not in a rush and keen to get the 'right' car. Don't mind a fair bit of work but would like a period colour such as the met. brown of the launch car, must be my age I guess... :?

Cheers

Re: 1986 Excel SE

The Excel sold today to a proper enthusiast and is going home to Norfolk, not far from Hethel!

I'm well chuffed it will be looked after and cherished as it should be.

Right, the search for an Elite project starts now...

Cheers

Re: 1986 Excel SE

Thank you Dave. I have another forum member viewing on Monday, if that proves unsuccessful then I'll certainly contact Clive, no problem. Good to know you're keeping yours - sounds like a fantastic location to enjoy some warm, dry roads. Unlike here in the UK where we are 'enjoying' the usual cold, ...

Re: Front side/indicator lights

As stated above. I used Malpas tractors at a fiver each:-

Bit of a faff to fit to Lucas casing but doable with shorter screws.

Believe they do the whole lamp at 18 quid a pop.

Re: 1986 Excel SE

Thank you for the kind words Richard.

I don't intend to leave the forum; it's a fabulous resource with great knowledge and experience. I'm moving cars around with a view to getting the Elite project that I have always wanted.

Cheers
