Re: Excel Door hang adjustment - help needed
Hi Steve - can you also lift the door 3mm at the latch end? Is the hinge worn enough to create this? You're right about the through-bolts in the A-post - they make the hinges adjustable fore and aft, so leaving the lower hinge untouched and moving the top hinge forward slightly will lift the door at...

Re: Steering Rack - Why rigid mounted not isolation bush
So do you know what the original application for the steering rack was with the bushes in place?

Re: Hinge bush upgrade
I use Taylor and Jones adjustable reamers. These are the reamers to which the extended pilots can be fitted. Tricky to use at first but once you get the hang of them they are fine. However - they are hardest to use on steel - you have been warned! :D. You also need to be able to measure the bore acc...

Re: Elite restoration begins!
Cheers! I've tested several oil pumps and the only one to work as I would expect was an early Jensen Healey pump. These early pumps didn't have the loose-fitting steel sleeve in them. Because the sleeve is held in place by the spring-loaded shuttle the minute the shuttle leaves its seat oil starts b...

Re: Elite restoration begins!
So - more extreme project creep! :D The early cam housing covers are renowned for there capacity to leak so, as usual, I've gone for an extreme solution  This is a casting I've had made which I hope will permanently cure the problem: https://onedrive.live.com/embed?resid=26F9DA86489430FD%211035...

Re: New comer - Progress (edit)
The torque converter is very heavy - it makes lifting the gearbox almost impossible on your own (if you're weedy like me!). However - the main reason for taking it off is that if it shifts for any reason it will break the oil pump drive dogs inside the gearbox - lots of trouble! Stuart's brace looks...

Re: New comer - Progress (edit)
You'd be better to remove the torque converter completely before transporting the gearbox . Lovely Lotus-yellow bracket though!
