Initial mechanical timing question
Hi all. This might be a silly question, but I am going to ask it anyway, as I cannot find a post about it elsewhere in the forum. Having put a recon distributor on my Excel SE 912, I am in the process of setting the initial mechanical timing as laid out in the service book (image below), with the cr...

Re: Identifying a window connector?
Are you sure that's not the feed to the mirror? I can just make out the 3 pin plug that also feeds mirot in the background. Tony I thought it would all be one assembly, but looking in my parts manual, I see it is all separate. Yes it is one of the feeds to the mirror switch. Part A082M6503F if I ha...

Re: Identifying a window connector?
The switches are Torrix and also used on Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat and Alfa of the period. There were 2 versions with initially 5 and later 6 contacts. Thanks Alan, so is the connector a Torrix too? It is only the loom connector that I am trying to get, not the switch itself, which works perfectly. Al...

Identifying a window connector?
Hi all, I was removing the driver's side door card for the first time over the weekend and had to disconnect the electric window control switches. When I looked at one of the plugs, before disconnecting it, half of the plastic casing was missing. I'm trying to identify the make/type of the plug so I...

Re: Car covers
I’d be interested to know if good breathable outdoor cover brands that people can recommend. My Excel would fit in the garage but only if never got out of it!!

Re: Battery
Running a Varta N72 72Ah 760A in my 1990 Excel SE - no problems to date. Correct dimensions for the well in the boot too. It's an EHB battery, so you'll need your charger to support that kind of charging cycle (though not sure how much of that is marketing), no changes needed in the car though.

Re: Carbs the squirty bit.
Duncs, I have dug out a Dellorto document dated May 1969, in English and edited from Dellorto in Milano. It has a section on Acceleration Pump Calibration. Basically it explains how to measure the fuel flow produced by having the Carburettor off the engine, with a fuel reservoir 20 inches above the...

Thanks Dave and Peter. All great advice, and as said, in simple terms. I'll do a search for the butterfly setup posts.

Re: Carbs the squirty bit.
Des's book is good. But there are one or two areas where he chooses not to got into detail, or doesn't fully explain function. Setting up the pumps is one area. Explaining the relationship between physical throttle balance achieved by observing the throttle plates passing the progression holes, ver...

Re: Carbs the squirty bit.
I bought Des' book recently and it is excellent, though weirdly I could not see a specific volume specified for the accelerator pump action, only a reference to there should be no free movement of the arm - i.e. that it should just be set so it is contact with the diaphragm base. I will look through...

Re: Paul Matty sold to Classic Team Lotus
I guess we’ll be able to see whether that is a good or bad decision for the end customer over the next year or so. Hopefully not. Better that it doesn’t just disappear though so fingers crossed.

Re: Car transporting recommendations
Where is the car anyways? In case a local member can help It is in the Milton Keynes area, and I need to get it to J1 of the M3. I have a driveway for it, but currently with no brakes, and possibly non-running at the time of move it could be a delicate operation! And of course our cars are super lo...

Car transporting recommendations
Hi, My car is currently 70 miles from where I live so getting to work on it is quite an effort for even small things. I am determined to get it running where it is, but it is going to need moving down to Surrey before MOT time in order to do other work. Does anyone have any recommendations of compan...
