Re: Front suspension bushes

Robert,

bit of a long shot here but do you still have any dimensions from your 'home made bushing' exercise? I don't mind spacing to 'offset' and maintain the caster to the correct angle but the groove dimensions are pretty important and not visible until stripped down.....

Re: Front suspension bushes

Interesting. Mixed responses then, as expected. The only part that really seems to need replacing is the ARB outer. So a poly solution is attractive as they are typically a split design, therefore definitely replaceable without removing the lower link i.e. an hour's job. I saw http://www.superflex.c...

Re: Front suspension bushes

Thanks.

Is that because there isn't a good poly pattern bush for the ARB?

Any supplier recommendations?

Did you check out the rear battery chassis earth? Where it comes through the boot floor.

Re: Lotus Excel RALLY!!!

rather than replace the air box with sock filters, get cold air into the airbox, socks = hot air =less power more than nullifying the weight saving of at most 1kg.
Socks go in the airbox nicely. Do both.

Re: Rear fog lamps in op

Not sure for your car, but easy to check: It was quite common for cars of this era to only power rear fogs with dipped headlamps. Make sure main beam is not selected?

Re: Still running rough

Check the rubber bobbins/thackeray washers and o-ring seal plates are not over clamped or the rubber hardened off. Vibration of the carbs can cause frothing of the fuel which can in turn give these kinds of issues.

Re: Trying to get Elite 1981 S2.2 back on road - help please

DC, having recently wrestled with this, I can probably help. Assuming that Excel and Elite are similar of course. Water pump is held on by five set screws of varying lengths. See locations of holes https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrlocust/16697928695/in/photostream/ The power steering pump bracket is ...

Rear seatbelt upper mountings (top of wheel arch)

Does anyone have the size of the bolts through to the boot and through the belt mount into the captive nuts of the bracket so I can source some before stripping the car down? The replacement plates appear to be 7/16" UNF but how long?

Thanks.

Re: Door locking mechanism

Similar experience here. I have found it beneficial to occasionally flood the lock mechanism on the rear of the door with a light oil such as aerosol 3 IN 1 when the locking starts to feel a little sticky. That usually gets things back to a slick operating condition.
