Re: Compression low

Thanks guys. I have a compressor so just need the leak down kit which I’ll buy now. If you have a way of getting the compressed air into the cylinder you can do a basic leakdown test without the specialist kit. As long as the valves are (or should be) closed, then put the compressed air into the cy...

Re: Waist line trim

I don't think that stepped profile is available, but for the really determined it would be possible, but you'd have the tooling costs for a rubber extrusion firm to make the die and do a small run. I think most people just go with the later style which is the one you've found available.

And regards it being a competitor's brand, Toyota were owners of Lotus for quite a while.

Re: Initial mechanical timing question

If you have got it based on camshaft (seemingly unlike the person who put the belt on), then just set the plug leads 180 deg out on the cap, the leads will still reach.

Re: No spark!

You've checked lots already but I'd suggest checking in a system approach. My approach for this (and I've had it on a few Excels) is to pick a point part way of the system and check if the system is working at that point, if not then go part way of that, if it is then part way of the remainder. So, ...

Libght polish and it's good to ride isn't it? The designer could have gone for an extended version of this instead. https://www.ewbankauctions.co.uk/20181004M1-lot-0-The-Goodies-The-LWT-Trandem-bicycle-Blue-used-on-screen-in-the-ITV-comedy-series-in-the-early-1980-s-History-When-the-Goodies-left-the...

Re: New member:- Excel SE Spec info

The SE had full leather as an option, just as it was an option on earlier cars. The main thing that differentiates an SE from the first edition and the model that ran alongside the SE and SA was that SE had 180 BHP High Compression Engine, the Low Compression engine was 160 BHP. The "wide body" whic...

Automatics, High compression manual and Low compression manual each had different ratio diff. So, depends what your current one is as to whether another is a suitable option for you.

Re: How do you check Castor Angle?

Definitely needs to be level, if wheels are high at front then the reading would be artificially high because it would indicate a lot of lean when doing the reading at the front of the wheel turn but then read low when doing the reading at the back of the wheel (by front I mean the RH wheel when on ...

Re: How do you check Castor Angle?

To check it you really need a dedicated gauge. The principal is that it's measured the same way as camber, but for castor you turn the wheels one way by a defined amount (the actual angle of turn can vary but the point is for it to be a known angle and be the same when you come to a later stage), yo...

Re: Windscreen replacement

As long as they are glued to the body then that's fine, Remove screws and door seal then use a knife (the retracting snap-off blade type are good, as a Stanley type will be too short) to go between the body and the trims, it needs to be done a little at a time to start with as you really want to get...

Re: Windscreen replacement

On an Excel? (asking in case it's another model). All Excels had windscreens bonded in place. Do you mean the trims have been bonded in place (that's not how I read the post)? The side trims are generally located by screws into the body work and by silicone or similar to hold it to the body, but not...

Re: Intermittent wiper problem

If the wiper starts up (without being switched on) straight after engine starting, then look to the engine earth strap, as the high current can cause a back-feed enough to move the wiper from park.

Re: Front Crank Oil Seal

I've not done one in place but can't think there's any reason why not. You would need to remove timing belt and pulley etc but those are generally OK in situ (but the crank sprocket can be a PITA in some cases.
