Re: Cruise control

I do find the cruise control useful on long motorway journeys (so long as traffic is not too heavy). However, I do find it a bit jerky i.e. I can feel, through the seat and steering wheel, the power constantly cycling on and off in order to maintain the required speed. I am sure I haven't noticed th...

Battery charging

This may seem to some to be a stupid question, but I'll go ahead anyway! As my Excel often spends periods unused, I use a charger/conditioner to keep the battery topped up - on the car. For what I felt were safety reasons I have always disconnected the battery when I do this. But, my question is, is...

Re: Replacement alternator

Many thanks for the replies. On this occasion I seem to be in luck. The charging issue was down to a faulty wiring connection. I'm now back on the road without too much expense!

Replacement alternator

Does anyone know if a straightforward replacement can be obtained? Seven years ago I drew a blank when mine failed and had to send it away for refurbishment. It has now failed again! Or is a 7year lifespan acceptable?

Re: Automatics

Some interesting points, here. The one time I met Stirling Moss it was in the early '70s at a garage in Shepherds Bush where I was working. He rode up on an automatic Triumph Tina scooter. (I believe he was banned from driving at the time). Some modern automatics can be very versatile. The last non-...

Re: April/May ABSOLUTE LOTUS MAG

The April/May issue (issue 13) has been out some while. I don't always buy it but this issue has a review of the Excel and a tour of the early Lotus factory locations which, for me, made it a "must have" .

Re: Cambelt (again)

Many thanks for those replies. I don't think I really need a racing spec. belt. I think I'll go for the Gates item and be sure to change it promptly!

Cambelt (again)

How much should I be paying for a replacement cambelt? The Lotus branded belt seems to be priced at around £80 but both SJ Sportscars , and PNM, offer one at under £30. Any recommendations?

Many thanks for that; I hadn't realised the change in circumstances. Angus has been a pivotal member of the club since its inception. It is understandable that he feels he should be able to take a step back after all this time.

Have placed my eBay order. However, what has happened to the online shop? Whenever I try to log on I get the message "Store Closed".

Re: Eclat to Excel, when?

This question has come up a number of times. I understand that the DVLA will accept "Eclat" or "Eclat Excel" under the model name but not simply "Excel".
