Re: Blowing the trumpet for Speedline wheels
I always ask tyre fitters to overpressure the tyres and then let then down to the correct pressure for this reason (i swapped wheels and tyres around a lot at my local quickfit when I was trying to make my 17's fit under the arches. Amazing how a leak or a bulge in a sidewall shows up more at 40 psi...

INSURANCE
Ladies and Gentlemen, (apologies in advance if this is bordering on too commercial for the forum) I am an insurance broker by trade and although we don't do much car stuff due to the aggregators, I do have access to some high value car schemes for specialist vehicles and deal with fleets and individ...

Re: Towing A frame
Bear in mind that towing using an A frame is a legal minefield as you are in effect towing a linked trailer. They are supposed to be used by licensed professional road recovery teams only for short distances. on a fully insured and road legal vehicle which has been disabled. You will also have probl...

Re: Speedo cable
Dont suppose anyone recorded the length measurements for the speedo inner cable and a confident description of the ends? Am going to try just replacing the inner cable as the sheath looks relatively new. Mine snapped about 3 cm behind the speedo head, but the car is a way away and i need to replace ...

Re: It's ALivE!!
You want toget that pressure gauge operational as soon as possible, its a major indicator of engine health and your only chance of warning if something does go badly wrong. The sensor is on the block under the distributor, I would check the connection is clean (sandpaper etc) and measure its resista...

Re: Ethel's rebuild begins
I'll third that, nothing worse than spending hours of your life building your own engine to the highest standard you possibly can and then have it trashed by a 25p hoseclip!!
Fortunately, I have rebuilt mine and its running sweetly now and the pleasure is worth it!

Re: Bonnet gas spring
Its yours, I do work in the centre of Sevenoaks, but am currently commuting to Brenchley near Tonbridge, so am all over the place, when do you want to collect it?
I don't finish work generally until half five or sometimes six pm, so you would be welcome to come to my office for it.

Re: Engine Hoist/Crane
I have used a similar spec crane to get my engine and gearbox out and I agree that the total weight is going to be in the region of 200kg. From memory the engine is 145kg dry and the gearbox around 45kg. Would definately second the removing both in one lump, Although I have practised extensively due...

Re: Ethel's rebuild begins
Fantastic, hope you got a video and can post it sometime. Really keen to find out how all your hard work has been rewarded on the engine and also on the lightening front. Hesitate to put mine up for a weigh off, but I could be convinced! Your exploits have been a real labour of love and an inspirati...
