Re: New Excel model coming soon
Thanks Peter. It's worth taking the time to remove the old plate decals. I found the new self adhesive plates were a tiny bit smaller than the metal backing plates on the model, so if I had just stuck them over the top, the edges (especially on the back) may have been visible.

Re: New Excel model coming soon
I received mine just before Christmas. As promised, Grand Prix Models had corrected the badges. Since the model is an exact replica of my car in colour and trim, I then went on to find some 1/18th scale number plates. Again, they replicate the post-2001 font plates on my car, I chose the "No Border"...

Re: SGT - Station Garage Taplow
The same kind of thing happened with Storm of Leicester, which is where mine was supplied from. There is still a dealer called Storm of Leicester, but it's basically a new company. My car had a Storm sticker on the original windscreen, which sadly I couldn't get off when the windscreen was replaced....

Re: Dash refinishing
That looks good Andy. What method did you use? Mine are cracked too, but I suspect it is just the lacquer and not the veneer underneath. I would rather not replace the panels since they have a nice grain pattern in the veneer, and are part of the car's character.

Re: New Excel model coming soon
I have a red one on order too, from Grand Prix Models. I've emailed them explaining the badge issue and asked if they were aware of it. I would certainly rather wait and have a correctly detailed model. I had the following response from Grand Prix Models today: Thank you for your email. I have just...

Re: New Excel model coming soon
Well I ordered mine (red) in summer and it hasn't turned up yet. I get emails every month to say it's on back order. Paid only £1 holding deposit so far. ☹️ Maybe the first batch was faulty as described and so they can't complete my order at the full price. The faulty ones being sold off cheaper. I...

Re: Cheap Eclát and expensive Excel
The 92 Excel, I'm watching with interest. as it's nearly the same as my own. It's done 6000 miles since 2006 and looking at the gear stick, I struggle to believe the big push of 19,500 miles. More likely 119,500, which isn't bad but if it is the case, a bit dishonest to make a show of *LOW MILEAGE*...

Re: Sump removal
Yes, it is possible. My specialist did exactly that when I had the zero oil pressure problem too. The plastic olive was broken (so no suction on the oil pickup), and also the strainer on the bottom of the oil pickup had disintegrated. I bought a new one but it was too long to fit into the sump, so h...

Castle Combe Autumn Classic - 23rd September 2023 - 75 years of Lotus
Anybody fancy this one? Celebrating 75 years of Lotus.

£15 in advance on the Castle Combe website, but I'm told Club Lotus may have car club tickets available, although I couldn't find it on their website - does anyone have any more details?

By the look of it the Blaupunkts are also 4" / 10 cm speakers the same as the Alpines so you should be able to use the original mounting clips and grilles.

Re: Rumble from the rear
Problem solved... :) Phil was right, the problem turned out to be quite badly seized rear calipers. My specialist, Andy at Qmech, commented that it was amazing that they worked at all, let alone passed the MOT... I had bought overhaul kits and pistons previously, with the intention of overha...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Cap
I bought a Land Rover Defender Reservoir cap after comparing mine with a friend's who has a Defender 110. It fits perfectly. Land Rover part number SJL100200 or equivalent. I'll put a post in the Alternative Parts thread with some photos. The Mini ones looked very similar and were a bit cheaper, but...
