Re: Aluminium welding equipment?

Hi Peter

You need a TIG welder. The problem is the initial cost - you can only weld aluminium with AC, and AC/DC machines start at about £1000. I treated myself to a DC-only machine earlier this year, but still have to take my aluminium welding to a local fabricator. Technically you're supposed to ...

Re: Clutch Pedal/Master Cylinder Issue.

It may be easier to pull it off at the other end - from the heater end - I seem to remember it's easier to get at.

Re: RIDE HEIGHT

Hi Shane

Ride height is measured from a certain point on the chassis (not easy to describe) so here is a page from the workshop notes which shows where to measure from (little picture on the right):

The 'middle' section of the chassis ...

Re: Front wheel bearings

Just a thought - it might be worth checking the body mounting bolts at the front if there seems to be a lot of rattles.

Re: Clutch Pedal/Master Cylinder Issue.

Hi Jeremy

The convoluted black hose is just a push fit at both ends (there may be some mastic involved); you should be able to pull it off the air distribution box and unloop it from the wiring. Getting the clevis out of the clutch arm/pushrod is fiddly; I seem to remember the Lotus position being ...

Re: Clutch Pedal/Master Cylinder Issue.

Like Paul says, I think you should be able to do it without completely removing the dash, but I think removing the instrument binacle would make life much easier.

Let us know how you get on

Re: Clutch Pedal/Master Cylinder Issue.

You definitely have to take the steering column out, because it's bolted to the pedal box. I'm not sure if you would have to take the whole dash out - you might get away with just the instrument panel. Mine's been out for so long I can't remember - I'll have a look tomorrow and try to give you a ...

Re: I can hear the sea (aircon funnies)

The thermocouple does stop the evaporater getting too cold - it stops it freezing up, but it still allows it to get down to ~ 4 deg C. Can you hear the aircon cycling on and off regularly? If it is cycling regularly the thermocouple/amplifier are probably working OK. (What year is your car?)

Was it the washer on the end of the ARB that adjusts the castor angle?

Re: Replacing Air-Con Evaporator / Dashboard

Hi Tony

Wayne is right - you do have to take everything out to get to the evaporator, and his "start with the steering wheel and carry on" is spot on: Not difficult, but time consuming. Are you considering changing gas type while you're at it? Some compressors have a built-in safety valve, but I ...

Re: Where is the LH electric window fuse?

Hi Hodders

My car is a '89 MY and the fuses are where you (and the workshop notes) say they should be (or at least there are two 20A fuses there - I've got no doors on at the moment, so I can't test them!). The fuse holders clip together in rows - check to see if yours have come free and are ...
