Re: New Elite owner from Sweden!
Lahi, with the water pump off check the block casting for burrs, you can easily improve water flow with a bit of streamlining.
Burrs were typical on the Elite engine.

Re: Original Elite press release from 1974
I knew our cars were/are very special with the end result of an amazing driving experience. I have never read such a detailed description of the body concepts. Is there a similar description of the 9XX engine design anywhere? Just as special as the rest of the car. This body document will close any ...

Just in case!
If you intend to Home In to clearance and wish to avoid using Loctite 504 every time you re-assemble, the adjustment to gap measurements when Dry is 0.0015 inches.
I do not know what adjustment is required for more modern gasket replacing goos.

Try this one. The parts are as normally located in the housing. Re: Oil pressure relief valve
I have recently dismantled the oil pump and pressure relief valve. I was first unsure where the valve is and concerned about using a press to get access to the valve. Being used to pressing bearings on and off I found that to remove the oil pressure valve the internal spring takes the inertia withou...

Re: Instrumentation gremlins
I have recently delved into electrical circuits including instruments. I was lucky that Forum members found me the correct version of circuits as the S.E. is very different to the LC. Regarding instruments, and bearing in mind that the fibreglass body requires direct wiring for earthing and the key ...

Re: Front Crank Oil Seal
A tip for refitting the Woodruf key. It can be difficult to fit the sprocket over the key, so when fitting you can slightly angle down the leading edge to enable initial contact and the sprocket will bed the key in as it is fully located along the crank.

Re: Front Crank Oil Seal
With the new seal fitted to the housing, I suggest you remove the Woodruf key before fitting the housing to the block, simply taking care (and lubricating oil) to fit over the crank shamfer. Once located loosely fit three bolts and rotate the housing to centralise the seal over the crank and little ...

Hi there Phil. I know the States is a big place, been there a couple of times, but somewhere in the Staes you can find a Lotus Esprit and Excel Guru called Tim Engel. On this Forum I believe he uses Esprit2 to sign in. He can access you maintenance bits in USA and is a mine of very deep technical in...

Re: !985 Excel Wiring diagrams
The failure of front and rear lights has been traced to the toggle switch on the dashboard. Quite a Heath Robinson invention, with floating brass strips and contacts which had dirtied up. Solved with a bit of Emery paper. For a car kept outside with humidity is likely to develop switch failure. Trac...

!985 Excel Wiring diagrams
No side lights front or rear while everything else works fine. I have the Owner handbook showing the footwell fuse panel and the wiring diagrams from the Excel Manual. Nothing matches, the fuse box has 18 fuses and the manual calls out over 24. The wire colour codes in the Manual do not match to on-...

Re: Spot what's missing!
Further thought. Normally the load on this shaft is quite low, only the oil pressure around the pump rotors. Either a loose bolt with continued tapping, not likely, or a sudden blockage of the oil pump rotors from detritus. Therefore it is worth having a good inspection of the rotors and their housi...
