Re: 3D Printed parts for the Excel?

I think the big step is going to be when 3d scanners come down in price a little more. You'll then be able to get a pretty much perfect replica of trim pieces that are no longer made and difficult to get hold of used.

Re: Neoprene cam cover gaskets-tips?

Don't want to tempt fate, but after getting a proper size cork gasket cut out and fitted, and after the excess oil on the manifold burned off (killing off any local wildlife in the process!) it may be sorted out. I spotted a tiny whiff of smoke as I pulled back into the house, but may have been as I...

Re: Neoprene cam cover gaskets-tips?

It might be worthwhile buying a card gasket from one of the usual suppliers and using that as a template. Neoprene without a structure to contain it stretches, that's why I've never felt the rubber gaskets will work. Alternatively pm me and I post my card gasket so you can draw round it. (Post it m...

Re: Neoprene cam cover gaskets-tips?

I had my first attempt at making a cork gasket today. Whilst i got the shape and layout OK, it came out too big on both sides. I did trace the rubber gasket exactly but maybe that one has got stretched out of position. I'll do a few measurements tomorrow and make another one. https://i.postimg.cc/9X...

Re: Neoprene cam cover gaskets-tips?

Thread resurrection after 6 months. My neoprene/rubber cam gasket I fitted last August seems to have failed over winter between cylinders 2 and 3. Took it apart and I probably overtightened a little (the ends look a little squashed, although top & bottom look OK. I also did as advised and fitted wit...

Re: Front wheel bearing going out again?

Dont want to be the one to ask stupid question, but is any of that noise from the brakes? Is the 12 - 6 wobble attributable to track rod ens etc.? Not track rod ends on the passenger side as tightening the bearing by one flat seemed to resolve it. Very good question about the noise being brakes tho...

Front wheel bearing going out again?

Right, so the MOT tester said yesterday the front wheel bearings on both sides could do with tightening up a little, but didn't warrant an advisory or anything. Went for a drive afterwards and I think there was a humming at 50mph on the passenger side, but which seemed to go away when I turned right...

Re: Bringing CO emissions down

Success! Re-did MOT today and got CO emissions of 2.68% and HC of 685ppm which is much better, and also within the Lotus factory specs for CO emissions. All good and problem solved :)

Re: Which Oil filter

It has one anti-drain valve but does not have the clean-side anti-drain valve. crs_20 tried one and found the slow oil pressure problem with it here: http://www.lotusexcel.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5398&start=30 Yeah, I'd read previously that the 920 took time to build up pressure, whereas peo...

Re: Which Oil filter

Thanks for the thoughts. I'd thought about the Mahle one first but couldn't seem to see it available anywhere when searching online :?

Maybe I need up up my searching game, or switch from Bing!

Re: Which Oil filter

Bringing this thread back from the grave!

Is the Mann W916/1 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGB-1-8-Mann ... 3212131745) oil filter still regarded as a decent one to get?

Re: Bringing CO emissions down

Well, many thanks to jeff.fenton I have been able to do some exhaust emissions testing after work today. According to the meter I started at 5.6% CO which is pretty close to what the MOT centre had. Went through the carb balancing process and once done tested again. 3% was the final figure which I'm...

Re: 3D Printed parts for the Excel?

Very cool and good skills. You could definitely make a bit of money commissioning parts that are no longer made for Excels/Eclats/Elites.

Re: Bringing CO emissions down

Soldave. One of mine ha just ad it's MOT, and was around 0.25 / 0.30 of the permitted limits for both C and Hydrocarbons, so should be easily achieved. Since your Hydrocarbons doesn't appear elevated but CO is, I doubt that it's ignition causing a poor burn, as I'd expect bot to go up if it were fa...
