Re: Bubbles in the coolant tank, blown head gasket?
I relpaced the Head-Gasket a few months ago and chose this Gary Kemp MLS Gasket. It is much more expensive than those normal "Cardboard-Gaskets", but it seems to be the better Optiion. I´m pretty sure, my Gasket has already been replaced some Time before by a standard one... and it was rotting away ...

Re: 1983 Non Running Eclat
One of the Pre-Owners of my Excel did file in an Info-Request at Lotus itself, and they returned an important looking official Document full of interesting Details, like a List of the Options, the car was originally equipped with, what Colour the Decals had, how rare it is (one of three equipped wit...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
Welding Copper is just a normal Welding-Primer, which you can melt on with a Torch. Not that we are mixing Units, here: I meant 300°C - that´s 572°F. 800°F (427°C) is a little high for a bare Header, but not unheard of... and I bet you´re not talking about a 8:1 Compression Economy-Engine (we call t...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
So, I´m back on the Road for a Couple of Days now. Haven´t tested yet, if my Work really added some Horses (we´re just talking about ca. 20 HP in Theory, anyway), but it sounds waaaay cooler 8) More bassy, not really louder as long as you cruise and an uptempo, high Volume Barry White @ WOT. To go i...

Re: Clutch travel
Have you tried to push the Clutch-Lever inside the Bellhousing with a Screwdriver or something similar? Maybe you can feel what´s wrong that way before taking the tranny out of the car...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
Okay, Head is bolted on (did you know that the Middle Layer of these Gary Kemp Gaskets is made of Kevlar? Don´t know if this is really neccessary, but it sure sounds cool saying that LOL  ) I stumbled upon a "Generation II" Heat-Wrap for Headers - with Copper-Fibres woven into. I have no Idea, ...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
These Gary Kemp Steel-Gaskets look very trustworthy. The former Gasket was a normal Composite one in black, with red Rubber Lining. Don´t know, how old it was, but it litterally rotted away... so these few Bucks more seem to be a good Investment.

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
Alright, all is ready now and I´m twiddling Thumbs, waiting for the Parts... Anyone´s got some Photos of the Underside of the Engine Bay, where the Exhaust Manifold is? I want to start building the Header, but since the Engine is out I have no Idea how much Space I´ve got... @Andy: Yeah, I´m relativ...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
Okay, next Plan: Who was the Guy here with the Rover-V8?
Just kidding

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
They... move? Is that normal with Aluminium-Blocks? The only Alu-Block I know is the old Buick V8, and there the Liners are anchored by a wierd Wave-Pattern outside of the Liners. Good Thing, I haven´t rotated the Crank, yet. Man, that´s a different Horse to ride... :? ...and I thought: Hey,...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never
LOL  No, I´m a German and my Shop is in a sleepy Town called Grevenbroich, between Duesseldorf and Koeln (Cologne). So, between us is just a little bit of Water :) We mostly work on american Cars from the 50ies to 70ies, so I adapted the american Terms. I already realized that there are more Di...
