Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never

Okay, an Alumin(- i -)um-Shield, then. We use Wrap all the Time, here, and never had an Issue with it... well, except the aforementioned Uglyness. Oil, that gets soaked up, will just cook away and add up to the overall Uglyness. Prime Reason we use it is simply to keep the Engine-Bay cooler. But thi...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never

Interesting Effect, Richard. Haven´t seen this Drop of Mid-rpm-Torque on other Engines, yet. But I have to admit, that I rarely work on 4-Valve-Engines. Usually Torque and HP increase over the whole rpm-Range. Ah, and Dave: Heat-Wrap (this Rolls of Glassfibre-Cloth) always is a good Idea to lower th...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never

Yeah, with "doing nothing" I meant "doing nothing except Porting" The Engine seems to react positively on better Exhaust-Flow - and there´s enough Meat on the Casting to do that. The Inlet-Side is okay already, a Bit of Cleaning should do. Gasket-Matching on the Inlet-Side isn´t neccessary - ...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never

Okay, first Things first: The Cylinder Head Gasket was the Culprit. It was a normal Composite-Gasket and it disintegated more or less evenly, because the "Paper-Parts" of the Gasket didn´t seem to be overly "waterproof". On a lot of Areas it already disintegrated inside of the Sheetmetal around the ...

Re: Adding Muscle - Now or never

Thanks Guys, that´s good News :D Great Hint, E-Clan. Wasn´t thinking about that, because the Cars I work on usually have Automatics. Okay, I´ll finish my Coffee and them I´m back under the Car again... ...almost forgot to tell: Cylinder 4 is the guilty one (probably the Head Gasket around Cyl.4). Th...

Adding Muscle - Now or never

So, the Engine of my ´82 Excel just started spitting large Smokepuffs of Coolant through the Pipes. That most likely means: Head Gasket, which also means: Engine out. In other Words: Now is the perfect Time to talk about adding a few more Ponies to the Herd. Suggestions? What about the HC-Head? Is t...

Re: Camber

Nice Solution, Pete :D My initial Idea for that was an Intersection with a threaded Rod - like an adjustabe Steering Rod - but a bit more beefy. That would make Adjustments more easy. @ Bash: Well, the one I work with most Times is an experienced Gearhead... and I work on Vintage Cars for a Living, ...

Re: Excel - My new daily Driver

Yes, without the 2Color-Paint the Rear looks like a Galaga-Ship  I´m still not sure what to do... in other Words: It will stay that Way for the foreseeable Future anyway. I´ll ask a Friend of mine which of these Photo-Dump-Data-Grabbers is the least worse Choice and then install it... I don´t r...

Re: Camber

SJ Sportscars made ´em according to Steve C. My first Try would be Lotusbits - I´m pretty sure they either have them or know where to get them... but a DIY-Job would be good as well. The only Thing is, here in Germany it´s a bit more complicated because of the TUEV (our MOT)... you sure know the Ter...

Re: Camber

1.5° ... I´m not sure, but I can´t shake the Feeling, that the Front has been lowered. Springs and Coils look stock, but who knows... maybe someone in the Past torched the Springs a bit. That could explain the Camber. Personally, I like the current Ride Height, so instead of raising the Front I woul...

Re: Camber

Let me drag this post out of the Graveyard for an additional Question: Has someone with this adjustable Wishbones Upgrade played around with camber a bit? The Front (or at least my Front) has got a rather hefty negative Camber Angle. Sure great for Cornering, but as Daily Driver I´d like to have a m...
