Reconnect the damper at the top or just stop it rotating...then (plus or minus HEAT on bolt) .... use a LONG (400 - 500 mm) STRONG (1/2" drive) breaker bar with a strong ChromeVan 6-sided socket on the head of the bolt (that fits well!) and rotate the bolt bit by bit back and forth ..should knock out when freely rotating within the bush.

The bolt is rotating freely in the bush, but will not push through. I currently have it under tension by a g clamp but the bolt is seized to the inner bush sleeve which is a larger diameter than the bolt hole . So far not budging. The 2 spacer washers are the culprit I think. Galvanic action. One is free working on the other.

So heat the bolt at the stuck end to 'smoking'. Quickly fit a large >1 inch socket over the bolt head with a G clamp across both back of socket and bolt end ... put under as much tension as poss (as you may have) ..then wack the G clamp end connected to the free nut bolt end with a 2lb lump hammer? G clamp Tension + lump hammer force combines into an instantaneous MUCH large force along the bolt in the direction toward the bolt head which is free to move into the large empty socket.

In the process of sort of doing that. Got the socket and clamp set. Blocked the arm void below to stop that being squeezed. Both spacers now moving freely. bolt turning freely. Not budging still. Leaving tension on over night

Sounds like time for the air-powered hacksaw.

Finally allowed out and bought a reciprocating saw and cut the damper bolt in 3.



Bush is shot so cant go back on. You may be able to see how badly seized the sleeve is to the bolt shank. Got a replacement bush from Motorsport outfit specifically for AVO shocks and it doesnt match my damper end. The new bush is for a 25mm/1in ID, 20mm eye end whereas mine is 28mm/1.1in 30mm thick eye end.

Have you tried to find a metalastic bush for them? Buy some Copperslip! Those poly bushes are shocking! (pun intended )

I've got a few of those Erbauer tools ..couple of sanders, plunge saw etc. Pretty pleased with price versus performance. The recip saw is now on the wish list! Thanks for posting.

Yes I was most surprised and pleased by the build quality and price. Went for the lead type rather than battery. Price doubles for battery ones.

Any tips on how to get fuel tank breather pipe on to the adapter end?

Mine is right up against the bulkhead.

Well I changed the hose type from reinforced pvc oil resistant to rubber cotton braided and managed to get it on. Some right funny looks from the neighbours whilst in the Lotus boot position.

They just dont understand.
